I never posted the first 2 coyotes of the season. I was out hunting pheasant in SD. The owner of the property knew that I hunted coyotes, and said to bring my gun out and shot some. The night we got there the wind was just blowing really hard, so I went out behind the building to see if anything would show. Had one come running through and won't stop at all. (Fly by) We went pheasant hunting the next day and we got our limit. That night I was going to get ready and another guy asked if he could come with me. I said sure, you are shooting then. We went to the first spot the land owner showed me. We had 2 come in, but wouldn't come closer then 400-500 yds. Just sat and did some barks at us. They left and so did we. Went to a cattle pasture and set up on the south side. Wind was blowing from the SE. We got set up, started scanning and there was a coyote in with the cattle. It starts heading our way, I told him we have to wait for it to get pass the cattle before we can shot. It just trotting, and doesn't know we are there. Its about 100 yds straight north of us, I said are you ready, he said yes. I started to bark and it stopped and looked our way. I told him take it. Rifle goes boom and that beautiful sound of the thop. Coyote takes off and goes about 100 yds. He hit it too far back, but its down. He was so excited. So I said lets turn on the caller and see if anything else would come in. Put on kitten distress, at about 5 min mark here comes another coyote from the cattle group to our E. Again told him to wait till it was clear. This coyote is going more straight north, compared to the first one. It clears the cattle and I bark at it. It stops at about 150 yds, and he fires, thop, coyote takes off and runs maybe 50 yds. Again the guy is just happy as can be. We ended the night and went home.
As it looks by the warm weather, I'm guessing I'am done for the season. For me it's been great, my shot placement was good. Only missed 2 coyotes that I thought were within my shooting range. Saw 2 skunks, 1 red fox, had 2 Olympic coyotes come in, first time in 50 years of hunting. I've seen tracks before but never in real life. So for me. it was a great year. And always, thanks for taking the time to ready my post. Thanks
