New 1911

Best quality in the 1500 range is Dan Wesson. All steel, fitted parts (no mim). Definately best buy short of a custom gun. For around 800-1K, Springfield Armory, Sig, Ruger are all good options. Sounds like a fun problem to have.

Dan Wesson if money isn't an issue. Colt, Springfield, S&W, Ruger and Sig are good also. Kimber... maybe. The last Kimber I owned had a buttload of issues. I'm not real high on Kimber right now.

Have a combat commander-wife carries a sig 938.
Think something bigger in 9mm would get her through class better.
So you know how it goes-why not buy 2
Am a ruger fan however lot's of reading has me leaning to springfield.
Looked a citadels in Reno this week-can't find any bad reviews.
Any experience with these?

I got screwed on one of their premium "custom shop" models. NEVER worked right, took a big hit on resale, never again!

I have a Springfield 1911 A1, That I had work done on. It is a nice basic 45.
Then I have USP HK 12 round 6in Elite. Good investment, gun.
One of the most interesting 1911's is a Rock Island Armory. They are all steel.
Lifetime warranty, Just a plain jane 1911 but a well built 1911 for under $600.
I have Rock Island 1970 type trigger, Commander, Tactical Compact. These pistols are cut
from solid steel not castings, it is a shooter.

I have an older Stainless Springfield Ultra Compact in 9mm. That thing is a pleasure to shoot. Im actually more accurate with it than with any .45 i own. Maybe its the lack of recoil.

Sorry the quality has gone down on Kimbers.
My stainless Kimber Custom 1911 has been solid for over 15 years,
but it does stay in the safe a lot, I'm original owner.

I think Springfield's are a great product right now. I have had EXCEPTIONAL performance from late model Sigs as well.

I can't recall a single problem with my Dan Wesson Patriot SS Target or my Springfield SS Loaded Target... both have shot a variety of factory and hand loaded ammo well.

I had a Rock Island 5" 1911 for a couple years, but bought me one of these this past summer to replace it.

Model: 6722
Caliber: 9mm Luger
Capacity: 9+1
Model Type: Lightweight Commander-Style
Grip Panels: Black Rubberized
MSRP: $979.00

Then I picked up a 38 Super barrel from Fusion Firearms for it too.

Double your fun.....

I had a good friend who went with his wife to gunsite. As I remember, they both really enjoyed it, and went more than once. However due to the volume of fire and the training they came back and bought different guns. As I remember his wife especially came back all sliced up with the sharp surfaces of her gun. He liked his EMP, but I can’t remember what she took the next time.

I’d recommend letting your wife select her own.

My wife has always been a wheel gun girl until she decided to get her carry permit.
We went and rented guns until she decided on a sig 938.
When she took the class the sig was still new so her and my daughter shot qualification with my
combat commander. my wife had shot it 3 times before-really don't know why she chose it. My daughter had shot it 2 times and outshot a lot of big bad men at class-nobody came close to her group.
I am just thinking about a 9 because a 1000 rds is a lot of shooting and I have heard the stories about cut and beatup hands.
We will go shoot guns to try before buying.
Neither of use like the feel of plastic guns so far,
Although I played with the trigger on a sig 320-very nice.

Springfield Range Officer has done good by me, got a good deal on a used one, I also have a Springfield Combat Operator that takes it up a notch.

I'm a Springfield fanatic. Springfield doesn't use the dumb firing pin safety like Kimber and Colt do, which keeps the triggers crisp.

I carry a TRP for uniformed patrol and a Loaded stainless for plainclothes. The guys that work for me are the younger 9mm spray 22 rounds then reload type mentality. My mindset is more focused on accuracy. I can take a 50 yard shot with confidence. I'm the supervisor, so I'm less concerned with quick draw contests. I probably won't be the first on scene for a critical incident. So an accurate 1911 is a great tool for my application.

The TRP feels like the hammer of Thor.

One of my best purchases ever. Never regretted.

One of the reason I'm leaning to gunsite is the old fart's class. I am and never will be an OPERATOR.
Can't run or roll around on the ground anymore so I believe good tactics and ACCURATE shooting is what will matter.
Will be going to Reno soon-will be looking hard at Springfield.
Thanks for all the replies.

I have 3 sig and 2 kimber 1911's and if I could do it over the sig has given me no issues and have had close to 4000 rounds through each with no issues. The kimbers have had no issues either but don't have near as many rounds through them. My next 1911 will be a springfield operator.
