I just received my first AR. It is a R-15 Full stock with a 22" barrel. I will be using it on coyotes in open pastures and shallow woods, mostly open. I have narrowed my scopes down to 3-9x 40 with balistic recticals, now I am having a hard time in picking from a VX1 ,Nikon or Burris. But I really need help in picking my mounts and where to get them, I am new to picanty rails. Thanks for your comments!

There will be a lot of opinions on this.

I think the LaRue Tactical scope mounts are the best. A little pricy but you get your monies worth. They place the eye at the right level for an AR-15. You'll find the scope has to be a good bit higher than you are used to on a bolt gun. Mine mount about 2.6 inches above the line of bore and that fits me well. The mount is very sturdy and they say you can remove the scope and remount it without changing the zero. I haven't tried that but the detatchable mount fits so well that I don't doubt it.

Sort out all the answers you will get. Good Luck.

+1 for Larue. I have a Larue on my custom 204 and I Love it. I also have a JP enterprise on my RRA Coyote and it is nice but not a Larue.

The Larues are expensive but worth it in my opinion.

Armalite one piece scope mounts work great also and are usually under $100.

I currently use TPS extra high 1" tactical rings. I like them alot and give my varmit rig a nice clean look.

Larue makes some of the best stuff out there but it quite spendy.

Oh yeah... I also like my Burris Fullfield II scope. It's 4.5-16x 42mm that has the Ballistic plex built in range finder. The scope was under $300 new and has been real good to me.

Give the Leupold Mark 4 Tactical extra high rings a try. They too are spendy (120 ish new) but I wanted mine to have rings that went straight to the rail from the scope and didn't want a riser of any sort. I wanted a clean look. They are also tough as a tank...!!!

i know Larue is supposed to be the stuff for mounts but i could buy anthor scope for what they cost ouch, i like the burris extreme tactical highs they are very good rings for about 55-60 for the pair. Ron

I bought a cheapie NcStar scope riser for like $10 off ebay and it puts my 3-9X40 scope at the perfect height for me.

It's machined aluminim, and the rifle shoots well with it.

I drank of the Larue COOL-Aid, not once, but thrice!! And going for #4 as soon as my Aimpoint is delivered.

I've tried most of the one piece mounts, as well as a bunch of tactical rings. I'll bet, at one time, I had more into mounting solutions than I had into high end glass. I learned my lesson the hard and expensive way.

Pay once, cry once... Or something like that... Larue will NOT let you down!!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

I would take a look at Burris extrene tactical rings. I have two ar's set up with Burris ff2 and went with the extra high rings and they are great and only ran $45.00 per set. Very solid rings.
