Got my new 6.8 SPC upper. Its a spec II 16" midlength barrel from Scott at SD with a Midwest Industries SS rifle length hand guard and a Titan SJC brake. I think its gonna be louder then all get out but it sure does look cool. Haven't got to shoot it yet but if it shoots like my other rifles from SD it outta be a winner. Not sure it will live in this lower but it's what I threw it on last night to "fondle" it a little bit...
What do you think?

Right now I have 110 g. Vmax loaded with three differnet powders I had on hand. Benchmark, H335, and H322 are what I have loaded so far...

I think it looks great... The only thing I would do a little diff is screw my can on the end to make it quiet as a church mouse.

We will be waiting on the range report.

I took the 1-3x off and put on a 3-9 for load development. But as soon as I get a load dialed in the 1-3x is going back on. I want this to be a run and gun rifle. Another option for pushing deer and have quick sight acquisition for calling. Thinking about getting an ACE skeleton for this lower and leaving it on there. I also have a lower with a LMT SOP-MOD that it might work pretty well on. All my lowers have RRA NM trigger, but my SD and it has a Geissele SSA and Magpul PRS, so I guess it really doesn't matter which its on other then stock preference.

very sharp, if your going to pick up a pound of powder to try give viht n133 a look...it's pricey but boy does my 6.8 like it. what twist?

It's a 1-11" twist. All the barrels I have seen Scott use since he went to using Lilja blanks have been real good shooters. I have been reading over on 68forums and AA2200 is all the rage over there but I can't find any short of driving to Winfield. I know I shouldn't complain about Powder Valley being within driving distance but its still a 2 hour drive. I've often wondered if the Hazmat charges might be cheaper then fuel...

Have you thought about the 85-90gr bullet out of that 16"? Sounds like over there on 68 some are getting near 3k fps within those weights out of 16" barrels. Would make a heck of an all day calling machine.

To be truthful I'm thinking more like 90 g. TNT's. I like the thought of 85 g. bullets but I'm not paying $36 a box of 50 for Barnes, unless I got a hog hunt planned. There aren't any tough enough targets around here to need a Barnes...

Both of mine love the 90 gr. Sierra HPs, but I have hear the TNTs
are an even better choice. My load, with RL-10x is accurate
but slow(2650-2700fps). I am working a 95 gr. Barnes load
now, and have gone to RL-7 powder. If that doesn't get an
accurate load in the 2800-2900 fps range, then I might have to
try some AA2200. Not sure where I can get it, but it might be
stocked at the local Scheels.

I agree that the tsx bullets might be a little over kill but i was reading that the barnes mpg would do the trick and are a little less expensive.

Thank you, I was hoping to shoot it today but its rained all morning. I'm taking suggestions on loads if anybody is willing to share secret's...

First group tonight quickly while the weather cleared up a bit. I shot this prone using a bean bag chair as a rest. This was lazer ranged @ 101 yards shooting East with a 15 mph SE wind, on a oil field lease road (about the only place I knew of that wasn't 6" deep mud). This was with the H322, that's about all I had time for after getting it sighted in. Measured .525", I think she is gonna be keeper with a little more load tuning. More to come when I can make it to an actual range...

Thanks buddy, I really like it! I hope someday I can suppress it, cause it is LOUD with that Titan brake. But it stays on target!

Scott has another barrel just like mine sitting in inventory... I'm sure he would build you her sister. LOL!

Well after feeling like I had a load nailed down I remounted the 1-3x, I also bought a Kies linear comp and replaced the Titan SJC. I was very please with the results! I wasn't expecting it to shoot very tight groups with the Weaver V series 1-3 power. I got two groups out of it that were right at an inch. Not to bad for a 3x scope at 100 yards! The Kies comp was outstanding, it really tamed down the muzzle blast! I fired three rounds without any hearing protection, and to my amazement it was very easy on my ears. Even my 6x45 is loud when fired during hunting, but the 6.8 almost pleasant. I am really looking forward to using this rifle. After getting it all sighted in I took it out and shot it at some distance and it was right on the money. I think the 110 g. Vmax is gonna tear coyotes in half but I bet they don't go far...
