New Bill on Floor in Kentucky

Bill would OK live coyote sales in Kentucky. The article is in Sunday, March 12, 2006 Courier Journal. The have decided that Coyotes have killed some calves. One farmer lost 3,500.00 dollars worth of calves last year. If the bill passes they are going to let you trap them live and you can sell them to a fox pen.

Wish they would just allow night hunting.

Pretty good article, interesting, anyway. The twit from HSUS needed some common sense beaten into herself, though. Never read anything so stupid as her comments.

Post the link to that article, Lastride, if you can, I'd like to see it. We need to make a concerted effort to allow night hunting for coyotes, allowing use of lights or NV equipment. KYF&G arbitrarily decided to classify coyotes as furbearers this season, which made night hunting for them illegal. Our deer and small game populations are going to suffer as a result, IMO.

Here ya go...
CJ Coyote Story

Just curious if you think many farmers would contract with a "pro" trapper? If they'd allow night hunting it might alleviate some of the damage. I'm not sure what the Humane Society lady thinks is going to happen with them if they're used for "training"! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif

Night hunting coyotes in Kentucky has never been leagal!!

Hate to differ with ya, Encore, but yeah it was. I have a copy of an email from the commisioner stating that is was legal to hunt 'em at night, without lights, and that night vision equipment was legal to use as well. As a result I got rather deeply invested in NVG and then they up and change it, for what reason I can't imagine. Not too happy about it, for sure! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/angry-smiley-055.gif

I don't believe the proposed Live Coyote Trapping bill made it out of committee so it's pretty well dead.

I've got some buds in DFW and they said there's some rumblings to legalize night hunting again but it will be next session before anything really happens. There was also a bill in committee that would take the oversite of the deer and elk herd away from DFW and give it to the Dept of Agriculture. It died a quick and painful death in committee (thankfully).

Jon Gassett is a good guy and would be a good one to get on our side regarding night hunting!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

I would also like to get it in writing that it's legal to use #4 buckshot for coyote. The laws basically say you can't but I've had a KDFWR district law enforcement captain, a few game wardens, and a state biologist all tell me you can.

I'd probably just ask the district captain to cite the reg where he believes it's OK- if you hunt in his district you could always drop his name! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I too have talked to our local officer within the last two weeks and he said kill all you want just dont use artificial light. Any night vision would be OK and natural light shooting would be Ok. Now after seeing timbermans post I dont know what to think /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif. Why we cant hunt at night is beyond me anyway.
