New Borden/Alpine clone XP-100 6.5-284

Last Tuesday I confirm drops, on the Black Widow 6.5x47 Lapua. I was also able to shoot for the first time in the field both on Steel and Prairie Dogs my Nine Run Gun/Michael DeLoach 6.5-284 that has a Borden/Alpine (Clone XP action). The action is so smooth! The Dell trigger is deliciously light! I almost giggle at times it is so light and clean. Shoots great as you can tell!
Confirmed drops at 400 yards, 496 yards, 575 yards, 645 yards, and 673 yards. All was 10” steel with the exception of the 673-yard target which was 12.” Using the Nosler 140 grain Accubond. Dan Ekstrom did the loading and the shooting at 100 yards for load development and turned in a beautiful 10-shot group, using a Harris Bipod in a small leather field bag. Holland’s Radial Baffle brake always does a wonderful job turning recoil into puff-cake status.
I should’ve taken more pictures during drop confirmation, but we were trying to get three different specialty pistols drops confirmed that morning. Plus, we wanted to do some dog shooting as well. Picture below is 10-inch steel at 575 yards, during drop confirmation shooting, and you can tell it was stacking in the shots. Sweet Rig! I am looking forward to using this for hunting this fall.

Impressive! A job well done you bet.

I used to have an XP-100 in 7/08 (rechambered from 7BR) but it did not shoot like yours. I had a bit less money in it I'm sure though.

that is a great looking rig and it obviously shoots as good as it looks.

More of a flipper if I remember correctly.
We killed a lot of dogs with three different specialty pistols that afternoon.

This is about as nice as one can go in the XP-100 world.
Did you hunt with your 7-08 XP?

Nope, I shot IHMSA unlimited with it back in the early 80's. I was not the shot that some of these guys that I shot against and got tired of getting beat so I "retired" from competition. That sounds better than quitting in disgust. I later topped it with a Weaver 3-9X but rarely shot it anymore. I later traded it for a 1979 Yamaha RD400 Daytona. I rather regret doing that. Cool bike but miss the gun.

A Very Nice set up...I Like.
That's some awesome velocity from a Pistol Barrel and a 140 Grain projectile.I don't need to know the Grains , But I'll Like to know Which Powder for the 140 weight projectiles, you use in the Short Barrel.
BTW What is the Barrel Length??
Back in the Day I had a XP100 in 223 With the Black Zyetl Stock. It Out Shot most 223 Rifles.
Sold/Traded it at a Gun show one Day. I've always Regretted that trade.

Thanks XP
The reason I ask, I have a 6.5x284 Hunting Rifle with a 26 inch
Thin barrel. I’ve been pondering cutting it down to 20 inch and thread for
My Suppressor. All the internet experts tell me it will loose way too much
Velocity. Your project proves them all wrong. 2800 FPS from a17 inch
Barrel with 140 gr bullets is awesome. Thanks for posting your project.

This is the fastest I have ever had a 17" 6.5-284.
It is at the edge, but it is accurate!
I am going to back it down.
Typically, a 17" 6.5-284 with 140's run around 2725-2775 accurately.
With my first 17" 6.5-284 XP I ran 2775 (Krieger 1-8 Twist) fps with the 140 A-Max.
Talking sustained shooting, LR dogging 1000 yard LG and HG with no problem, all day long, regardless of heat, etc...
Others have run in the 2725-2750 with best accuracy.
You know what they say about experts....
