New callin' rig! Shotgun

I've recently began to look at the Hatsan Escort MP-A 12 Gauge for a callin' rig. I can't seem to find one anywhere and haven't seen many reviews on them. Does anyone have anything to share about this street howitzer? I'm looking for the 20" barrel version. Thanks in advance.

It has a fixed cylinder choke barrel - no choke tubes. That would rule it out immediately for me.

Sorry, I should've explained that. I have a gunsmith lined up to cut the threaded portion off the barrel and re-thread it for a Charlson's "Dead Coyote" choke tube. That's why im interested in the 20" barrel versus the 18".

I'd go with something a bit more proven. I loved my 11-87 but sold it due to being broke. I hear Benelli's action is pretty bulletproof. Check out CDNN's catalog if you want something "tacticool" like that but already takes screw-ins. They have Charles Daly tacticool shotguns. If you can deal with a pump vs an auto, you can't do much better than an 870 or Mossberg 500... Buying a shotgun that already necessitates a trip to the gunsmith is fluky at best, and at worst you have a choke tube job that shoots sideways and you don't have enough barrel left to do the job over.

A lot of aftermarket choke jobs are taken on by Briley for their thin-wall chokes, since a lot of fixed cylinder barrels don't have enough steel left where they need it to facilitate something conventional like Rem-Chokes or Invectors. A Briley job is most certainly not cheap, and puts you even closer in price to a proven performer.

I just sold my Mossberg pump (535 Tactical Turkey) so a pump is out of the question. Autoloaders only. The Benelli M4 (my dream shotgun) is $1700 compared to the $500 price tag on this shotgun. I'm using a proven gunsmith that has a great history of threading barrels for shotguns. He charges $40 to cut and thread plus $20 for the choke tube. I'm not into "tacticool" as much as I am into funtion on a budget. For that reason, the Benelli is out of the question. Here's what I'm looking for. Autoloaders that accept 3" minimum. I strongly prefer pistol grip configs for all long-guns. I also prefer picatinny for an Eotech that I plan to use and the tac-rail simply because I do some predator control at night.

Thanks, I appreciate everyone's input.

I have used a lot of autoloading shotguns. I also worked in a gun store and saw a lot of the less expensive models have problems. Shotguns can be very finicky how they work. I had a $350 gun that had to be returned four times in three years. I finally received a new gun and it broke the first time out. This with light loads. On the flip side I have talked to people that have had wonderful luck with these models. I shoot several thousand rounds a year and expect my gun too always work.

You can send Carlson's the barrel and they will do that for you, & include 3 chokes of your choice, for a tad over $100. Not bad.

Looks like that shotty will be fast...

+1

For an autoloader, I'd go for a proven design. Nothing [beeep] you off worse than having an "autoloader" that you have to pull the action back every time.

Not a tactical shotgun to say the least, but I'm a fan of the old 3" Browning A-5 humpbacks. I have one, and my dad has another 3. Works every trigger pull.

If this shotgun does prove to be reliable, I'd be real interested to hear about it......I like tactical stuff as much as the next guy, but I don't want to be the guy to try it out.....

Just my $.02
