New Decoy

Just wanted to mention this Whirling Woodpecker decoy from Outfoxed Decoys. It is light weight, compact, simple to use and it works. One of the best I have used. It has a clip on the bottom to hang it up. I use this hung up above my FoxPro in a bush or small tree. Wing whirls and takes just one AA battery. Great for cats.

Steve

I have Lost mine to a Red Tail Hawk so make sure that you place it to where you can defend it.

I was calling with Woody spinning away and using the woodpecker in Distres sounds. I had the decoy on a dry branch just above the caller.

A dang hawk came in over my head (I thought that the coyotes in the area must like the sound too if the hawk is coming in)in the next second the hawk hit the branch the woody was spinning on.

The branch broke and the hawk swooped off to the Right with woody in his talons.

The last thing I remember seeing is woody's wing still beating against the hawk trying to get away.

That is the last I seen woody.

Sure I spent over an hour looking for woody. I even found the tree the hawk flew to but no woody.

It worked so well I have gotten me another. So remember do not trust the hawks in any way...

That is a great story Kevin, too bad you did not have that one on video!! LOL!! Bet that Hawk thought that was one touch woodpecker!

Great story OneFoot...bet that was a little exciting when the Hawk flew over ya..... guess if I get a woody, I'll think about an anchor strap or something and attach to a "green" branch, using your experience as a teaching tool for myself.

Thanks for the great info...sorry you lost a friend.

Is that a different one then has been advertised here before? Reason I'm asking is I thought the birds head was red? Is that a new model?

Thanks SteveM.
