I bought a new gps, a Garmin 60, it came with a topo disk. We downloaded it into a computer, but were unable to figure out how to download the topo info into the gps. I have read the book, but don't see anything on that part. I am thinking it looks hard to run. Any info would be helpful!

You can get freeware topo maps for any state which are better than Garmin sells at www.gpsfiledepot.com. The Mapsource program disk you installed on your computer will also display the freeware maps that you install on your hard drive.

A tutorial for how to install topo maps in your Garmin GPS unit is at http://www.gpsfiledepot.com/tutorials/how-to-load-maps-on-my-garmin-gps-unit/

It is also possible to install multiple maps for the same area in your GPS unit (such as a topo map and a land ownership overlay) then toggle which map layers to hide/show or show both together. The instructions for how to do that is at http://www.gpsfiledepot.com/tutorials/how-to-change-which-map-is-displayed-on-a-garmin-gps/

Hope this helps

Virtually all Garmin maps load to the GPS via the Garmin - Mapsource program. It has different names, but this is how maps are typically sent. If you have the 60CSx, it also has the ability to use preloaded maps on a microSD card, or to send the maps from Mapsource to the GPS.

In Mapsource, you need to select the maps you wish to load to the GPS all at one time because if you connect the GPS, and select one area and send it and then a second area and send it, the 2nd map just replaced the first one. All maps you wish to be on the GPS at one time need to be selected together and sent at the same time.

I have the same unit. Once it downloads to your computer, which takes forever, you have to go back in and open the program. Connect the GPS and then highlight the areas you want downloaded to the GPS. Once you open the program back up it walks you through step by step

Wow, thanks for all the info, I'll check it out when I get time. I accidently left the topo disk in WY, will need to wait for him to send it to me, thanks again.
