OK, here's the latest info.

The Dates- Friday June 20th THRU Monday June 23rd

The Place- Farmington, NM NAPI Navajo Indian Reservation

Requirements- Navajo small game license $30.00. Prairie Dog Permit $20.00. You must first purchase a Navajo small game license at ZIA Sporting Goods and then take that to Chris Yazzi at the NAPI and get your PD permit. I will be making arrangements to meet Chris at about 11:00 on Friday because she is usually only in the office until 9:00 a.m. but ZIA doesn’t open until then so it’s kind of hard to make both of those things happen at once.
You must have a flourescent orange vest or cap on while shooting so don’t forget to bring one. You also must have a valid drivers license to get a hunting license and permit so don’t forget that either.

Hotels- We’ll be staying at the Comfort Inn in Farmington. Rates are $63.00 per night but there are a variety of cheaper and more expensive hotels available. Check this site for more info http://hotel-guides.us/new-mexico/farmington-nm-hotels.html

Meeting Place- To be announced

Hope to see you there.

Thanks Lavoy, I don't think you'd like this place anyway. Chad tells me that they're shootin them at 50 yards with .22 mags. From what I hear, you're not happy unless they're at least 1000yds out /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif . We'll be sure to take lots of pics for you.

I'd give my eye-teeth to be there but no rain, no grass and hungry cows dont leave me any other choice but to stay close to home. Good hunting to all who go.

I recently went and met "Chad" in Farmington. What a nice guy! When I got there and found out that I couldn't use my .223, I was trying to buy a 220 swift or 22-250 and learned that I would either burn a barrel or go broke on the reservation. I think you should copy Chad with a scoped 22 mag.....
We only went out for a short while, but I think one could average one shot a minute and all you want at less than 50 yards, never leaving the truck. Take plenty ammo and maybe some cleaning stuff. Remember, these little buggers sell for up to $1000 each in Il. and Ohio. If you take a centerfire, be sure to use v-max or other explosive type projectile.

Have fun, it's a blast.

I was told by the Indian lady at NAPI and the permit store ZIA, in Farmington. I use the same bullet diameter in 22-250, 220 swift,223 in my ar's etc., but they really don't know what is up. Unless you are a red mist sort, I would just use a 22 magnum, at that place. Sometimes, with the 22-250 or 220 swift, I can't see the impact, because of the bounce. From what I saw, it's not hunting, it's a shooting gallery. You need to watch Chad's posts. He was my guide and mentor.

Harv-What's the reason they gave you for not allowing you to use your AR. I'm planning on going up there on Friday and I don't want any surprises. I've got a copy of the NAPI rules and it clearly states that you can use a .22 centerfire. What's up?

Call Chris Yazzi at 505 566 2600 and verify what you can use. I don't know if she knows that most 22 centerfire 22's use the same diameter bullets (.224) except early Hornets that used .223and some jets that used .222. I would only take polymer tipped,v max, tnt or other explosive types. I would also take a 22 mag, just to be sure. I don't think anyone is there to enforce the rules or even monitor what is going on. I actually only saw maybe 5 people all morning. The place seemed deserted. We did not even have to get out of the truck.I could not get a copy of the rules.

Good luck, have fun!
