New rifle advise

Might be in the market for a new 22-250. I would prefer detachable mag and wood or syn doesnt matter to much even though scratching the wood makes me wanna cry. I would like something with a 26" barrel why not squeeze out every extra fps possible right. Without going over$950 will say preferably less what everyones choice. 9lbs or under. I was looking into the savage 12 FCV think it was

I have a 12FV in 204. and its tough to use as a carry gun. With the syn stock its very barrel heavy. Its mostly used for ground squirrels where it doesent require alot of walking. Not knowing your purpose for the rifle, Id reccomend shouldering one and see what you think. Its gonna be about 11 lbs after adding a scope. Good luck.
 
Bench gun, range? For serious Canadian predator hunting I'd lean towards a 243 of reasonable weight. That 26" barrel seems overly cumbersome to me if you carry much.
 
I use a Mod 12 FCV. Love the rifle but that 26" heavy barrel doesn't lend itself to easy carry. Still, I carry it on coyote hunts 'cause I love the rifle. With scope and bipod it runs 15 lbs. Lot of weight to hump.
 
It will be used for coyote. Muskrat30 there is no wolves or bear within a few hrs of me so a 243 is not needed. 15lbs with scope and bipod hmm might have to rethink that rifle lol.
 
I just mention 243 cuz I think it reaches out well, especially with a breeze. In my experience pelt damage isn't really any worse than some of the 22 cals. I've mostly used a 85 grn Gameking or one of the other big game type bullets. I hate seeing a wounded dog trot off after the effort expended to get the shot. The 243 also doubles as a deer gun in many cases. Just an idea, nothing wrong with a 22-250.
 
We cant rifle hunt for deer in my area, have to travel couple hrs to the closest spot for that but I do have a 270 for that purpose. I like my ruger 22-250 just time for a different rifle thats all. Figured a 26" barrel would be nice but from my searches I cant find anything other than a varmint barrel. Might have to drop back to the 24" for some options
 
For a varmint rifle, that is a good choice. For a predator rifle, I personally would prefer a shorter lighter gun. I am 61 and I do not enjoy humping a heavy gun over hill and dale.
 
Look at the Savage line of rifles. Fred at Sharp Shooter Supply can turn down your barrel and cut flutes and install his triggger. My Model 12 trigger is set a 1 pound. Just do a search for Sharp Shooter Supply. Fred is the number one Savage man. He will even time your action. He installs his own Magazines
 
I have an xbolt varmint stalker that is great!

has what you need, detach mag, synthetic, under 9lbs and in your price range
 
I would reccomend a CZ-USA Model 527 Rifle,it is available in a few different Calibers, .17 Rem,.22 Hornet,.221 Fireball,.222 Rem,.204 Ruger and .223 Caliber.

The "American" is around 21.9 inches long and its a lighter easier carrying Rifle at around 5.9 lbs.The "Varmint" is considered a "Heavy Barrel" with a 24 inch barrel at 7.8 lbs.


I have the CZ "Varmint" in a .204 and its not as heavy as most other Long Range Varmint Rifles which weigh in at 8lbs and more after adding rings,mounts,a scope and sling....You can add more weight if You mount a Bi-Pod on it too?You pack an 8lb plus Rifle all over Predator/Coyote Hunting it can get pretty rough/tire some after a while.


Another Rifle to consider is the Savage Light-weight Hunter in 11 or 111,weighing in at only 5.5 lbs its easy to carry and it has the Accu-trigger also.There are several Calibers available in the Savage Rifle.

I bought a 22-250 w/26" hvy bbl and its HEAVY. I have since bought a lighter calling rifle in a .243.....faster twist rate for heavier pills to buck the wind better. I still have my 22-250 but it doesnt get to come out and play as much as my .243......
 
I had a Browning A bolt varmint stalker. 26" heavy barrel, large pentax scope, and Harris bipod. I hated to hunt with it because the darn thing weighed a ton. Sold it and bought a Browning X bolt shot show special. Stainless, medium contour fluted 22 inch barrel, carbon fiber stock and detachable magazine. Paid between 800 and 900 off of gunbroker. I absolutely love it! Only weighs 6.3 pounds.
The other rifle that interested me was the Remington model 7 predator. Full camo, medium contour fluted barrel and small package for under 600 dollars on gunbroker.
Like most of the posts above, if I were buying a coyote rifle and planning on walking any distance, I would consider something in a handy package. Just mho.
