I was going to make a re barrel savage 110 to a 22 creed. Shaw 18"barrel with 1x7 twist.
BUT I got a Ruger gen 2 with a 20" 1x8 twist. It was on sale for under $600. The Savage was $300, and a barrel was $500. $200 bucks and no work, do you think I'll miss the shorter barrel and a 1x8 instead of the 1x7?
It looks like 75 to 77 gr bullets are as big as the 8 will shoot. It's going to be a p dog- coyote gun, not long distance. Both can be suppressed. Also, it looks like the 20" should be 150' faster than an 18".
I have a TC 22/250 22" barrel, the ballistics are very similar, but 62 gr is as big as it will stabilize. Here in MT, WIND is always a big factor, so the heavier bullet should be handy.
Does anyone shoot a 22 Creedmoor for little and big dogs? Have any real-life preferences in bullets? In my "Hunting" rifles, I use mostly Hammer bullets, but at a buck and a quarter each, just for the bullets, in my HIGH volume chamberings, I'm hoping to be able to use a bit cheaper bullets. I found some factory seconds for around 20 cents each. I'm hoping for around 3300 fps out of the 20".
