I am new to this sport and I am hunting in s. NH. I have mouth calls and I am trying to master them. I have been dropping small amounts of bait In the areas that I hunt. I have been out at all times of the day. The bait is being hit and there are alot of tracks everywhere. But I cannot get the yotes to move and come in!!!! I am thinking of changing locations because I am afraid that I am just making these yotes smarter!!! Any tips for hunting yotes in NH for a new guy??? thanks alot

Just about the same as in Michigan, Scent control, Scent control, Scent control and play the wind. Wash all you clothes in scent free soap (maybe dedicate some to just predator hunting and nothing else) Try to sit on high ground, but don't silloute yourself, and try to sit in a shadow of something. Don't over call, or too loudly. Vary your calls if you can, a rabbit distress over and over will wise them up, especially if from same stand each time. Buy a bottle of fox pee and then a small spray bottle, dump in the fox pee and then fill the rest with water, spay a mist as you are walking in, and then once every minute while on the stand. Pick up, or make a decoy to draw the yotes attention away from you, a turkey feather on some fishing line is sometimes all you need. But most of all, don't get discouraged, it took me 8 or 9 setups before I even saw my first yote. They travel a large circle route in their territory, your timing might be just off as to where you are compared to where they are on their route.

Good luck!!

Hey there Browning, I just moved down here from Maine and am on the border of Vt/NH. Dont drop any small amounts of bait, why would they come to your calls if your feeding them? Need to freeze your bait solid in 5 gal pails of water, then remove it, haul it to where you have a good visual with a little sled and set up a site. Need a blind. Ice shack works good with a heater too!! Too cold up here to stand around callin in the winter. It is seemingly warmer down here and Im pretty sure I could stand a few days of calling though. Both are sure ways to get em in. I want to hunt down here, plenty of dogs around but I dont know a soul here yet and have found only a few lonely lakes with no homes around them in this area. Where ya at anyways?

I am not sure I understand!!! freeze the bait? how will they smell it if it is frozen? and ya you make sense about them not coming to my calls if I am feeding them. I will try a cover sent next time like some of the guys say I should. and I am not to far from Manchester....

From southern Indiana, I've been to south Texas and New Mexico. Electronic calls work good in the west, but with these eastern yotes, the closed reed mouth calls produce authentic "dying rabbit" sounds. People don't like closed reed calls because they freeze up, well if you can be inside a heated blind or shack, or if the temp is not below 20-25, you'll be alright. Last March I called in two adult eastern coyotes with a Burnham Brothers WF-4 Deluxe wooden mouth call. I highly reccomend this mouth call. It's very affordable at only 12-13 bucks each. I keep a few on hand, I use them a lot and it tends to wear out the reeds after a couple of seasons. A key factor is to sound real, to sound like a cottontail that is really dying, put some emotion into it. That's all I got, just trying to help you out a little. See ya
