New to night hunting. Shotgun light/sight suggestions please!

In MN we can only night hunt with a light on a shotgun. Therefore most of my stands will be in woods/brushy areas designed for closer shots. I may set up near open fields occasionally as a challenge to see if I can call them all the way in. If I'm not mistaken, I should go with a red headlamp scanner to spot eyes and another (brighter?) red light mounted on the barrel via a Beamshot RF9 mount for tracking them into range for the shot. What brands/models do you recommend for my situation?

Also, I'll be using my Beretta A300 Outlander with bead sight for now. Point shooting with the bead should be good enough at night correct? Any other options or tips relating to the shotgun sights?

Kyle,

You can get away with just using a headlamp as long as it is adjustable and bright enough to I.D. your target. If you add a gun mounted light, the Beamshot mount works great with most of the flashlight type gun lights. You can check out my website by clicking the below link. Good luck with you decision!

I have found that in the woods with a shotgun using a red headlamp and a tritium bead site on the front of my full choke barrell works best and is the quickest.

I'm leaning towards the Night Eyes headlamp due to it's small size. How does the Noxx Xplorer headlamp, Wicked W13 headlamp, EWT XLR100 and VRL-1/VRL-X light compare?

I have one of the headlights mentioned above...I find I rarely turn on the barrel light...The headlamp is plenty good enough...

Which one do you use? How do you like it?

I have the Wicked, but I am sure that the other 2 lights will be great...I have heard nothing but good about them...

Study up and choose whichever features suit you best...

I use mine for calling cats at night..I put it on medium power and turn the flood all the way up to cover everything...Works great..

roky0702,

Which light did you end up choosing? I'm a bit curious because I'm in the market for a good headlamp, although I think it might be on its' way from Santa...

I was going to call Jeremiah @ Boondock Outdoors, but then heard he became a dealer for Sniper Hog Lights so I'm waiting to hear his review on them.
