I just got started hunting coyote's this winter.First time out a buddie and I called in 2.One about 50yds. behind the other. We were both on the first one when I saw the second out of the corner of my eye,so I told him to hold fire till the 2nd came out of the brush.Well, long story short, we got busted by the first.Haven't been able to get them back in since.I was using a elec.call(rabbit in distress)and a rabbit decoy.I've tried pup in distress.Any ideas?By the way this site is great I found it last week and been here every day since.

Hello Rooster. A bit of advice: forget "them" and concentrate on other coyotes else where. Coyote hunting is not like deer hunting on the same stand repeatedly. Instead you collect as many calling sights to hunt from as you possibly can and hit them sparatically so not to burn a particular area out. Try not to keep calling one site over and over for the same dogs. You've already educated them enough so now go to another spot or two or ten or twenty, get the picture yet?, and call for 1/2 an hour at each one. By the way, this Ohio hunting can be real hard so don't let it pop your bubble if you don't see fur for a while.

Thanks for the info.Going to try southeastern part of the state in the morning. Then maybe slide over to W.VA. after that.I've only tried twice more at that spot since then but maybe when the pups come out of the den and get to roaming,I'll have another chance. The site which I mentioned above is this web site not the same patch of woods.sorry about that. Thanks again

Rooster, I have a friend over in your parts that does some trapping of coyotes. His name is Dave Lohrey. He has only been in that part of the state for 5 years or so but if you met him you would know it. If you meet him in the wilds tell him I said hello.

Rooster,
Got hooked early in the game, huh?
Christoper gave good advice, leave those ones alone for now, they don't forget to easily. Like he say's, forget about those 15 min set-ups, a 1/2 hour min,I like 45min.
Let us know how you make out.

Welcome to the board.I would agree with the others in saying the more stands the better. Also in most of the east we have to sit a stand longer, somtimes as long as an hour.I think this is due to less coyotes in an area therefore there is less of a race for the food.

Thanks for all of your replys.Just got back from s.e. ohio.I had one hang up at about 450yds. so I just waited for him to leave.I thought about taking the shot but the wind was to much of a factor so I quit calling, waited about 35 min. and eased on out of there.Maybe in a couple months I'll try again.Hopefully a dumb pup will make it a little closer.
