Afternoon all!
So as the title says I'm new to the coyote hunting scene.
Living in Eastern ND, Grand Forks area and started hunting these yotes last year.
I have made numerous sets and have only managed to call in 2 while within a couple hours of the house.
I'm a pretty avid hunter so pay attention to the wind. I think there is a lot of pressure in this area and am looking for advice on how to go about finding a little success.
I have a few mouth calls, cold weather gear and a good .223.
Would like to spend a couple days next weekend doing some calling and may drive out as far as the Minot area.
Anyway looking for some experienced suggestions.
Thanks all and great forum!

I was born, raised and farmed in Grand Forks county so consider myself reasonably informed. Coyotes are relatively new to that part of the state and no concentrations anywhere. Food is a major problem for them where heavely farmed with no pastors, fence lines, feed lots etc. but they are around but few and far between. The alkali flats area just west of Grand Forks, some of the water foul production areas between GF and airbase have a few. Some of the river bottoms and large cattail sloughs. Northwood sponsors a shoot every Feburary, I suggest you drive down there some evening, stop by the couple of watering holes, get aquanted and ask, most are very friendly and willing to help

Thanks for the post parson an and will look into it. I did see that Northwood had a hunt last year. Looks like coyote hunting info is as scare as sheep info up in AK! HAHA.

There are coyotes everywhere around you, I moved back to MN Christmas 2012, my GPS around the west side of grand forks was almost solid yellow I had so many stars marking coyotes I located.

Go 5 miles west of i29 & have at it. Closer to town you can bet they've been called, but they're certainly still there, when I was there Northwood was just one of three or four tournaments close to forks. Northwood was massive though 80-90 teams I believe, I never hunted when deer season or contests were going on.

Will keep at it as I was told persistence is the name of the game.
What is your process for going about locating them?
It's difficult to find a lot of access off of the road system. So how far do you all travel from one of the many roads here? Most places they are every mile.

I've always owned trucks so I didn't need to stick to main roads, I'm setting my current truck up to go anywhere and so I can pull myself out of any situation.

I probably scouted 5 nights for every one day of hunting.

I'd go out at 12-2 in the afternoon, scout for ducks/geese until dark, then howl for coyotes until morning, then hunt one of them.

Coyotes near town and main roads will have been hunted and shot at a lot, they're difficult at best, possibly impossible at times.

There is a lot of state to hunt and remember, MN has no season for them so those state forests east of you can provide alternatives as well. Not to mention you're after coyotes so even if you hunt MN and ask permission I doubt you'll have an issue getting on land. MN may also carry an added benefit of not having the amount of hunters harassing them, at leat up there, everybody would rather just go to north dakota for the easier access.
