The 24-day State Fair of Texas is scheduled to open on September 27, 2024. As of the writing of this email, they appear to intend to proceed to open with their new weapons policy in place.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton issued a letter to the City of Dallas on August 14, 2024. The letter cited the unlawful actions of the policy decision, and advised that if the decision was not reversed within 15 days of receipt of the letter, that the AG's office will file suit. Our staff and full-time legislative team are currently monitoring the situation and waiting on a response from the City of Dallas and the State Fair.

We are also in close communication with the NRA with regard to this situation. The NRA filed a brief on August 26, 2024, citing the TSRA and NRA backed bills (SB 501, 2003, SB 273, 2015, and HB 3231, 2019). The brief, which we fully support, was issued to the Texas Attorney General with the same opinions and findings that we at TSRA hold. The State Fair cannot prohibit LTC holders from carrying on the grounds of the State Fair simply because the State Fair is leasing the property from a governmental entity. Texas law does not work that way.

We continue to encourage you to make your voices heard with the State Fair by phone (469-945-FAIR) or by email (info@bigtex.com) to let them know that you do not support their decision. As always, we at TSRA will continue to stand up for your rights and keep you informed of those trying to take them away. We hope you will continue to support us in doing so.

Couple years back we had the same thing happening in Idaho. Our state gun rights group, Idaho 2A Alliance, stepped in and got things worked out. There were laws passed and a lot of educating, but in the end our rights were protected.
It's important to be a member of your local gun rights group as well as a national group. I am a member of I2AA, GOA and NAGR.
If you, we, don't stand for our rights they will be taken from us.
THIS IS THE GOVERNMENT THAT OUR FOUNDERS WARNED US ABOUT.
