I've got a #5 Newhouse double spring trap that I aquired many years ago. I presume it's a bear trap. The springs measure approx. 12" from center of jaw eye to bend. Just measuring UNSET I'm guessing jaw opening would be around 10" X 11" when set. There is 3 mean looking spikes (for lack of a better word) forged into each jaw. These are not welded or rivoted on, they were made as a part of the jaws as the jaws were being made. It's got about a 5' lenght of heavy chain on it with a swivel about a foot from the trap end.
This is a massive trap. Scary lookin thing. I do know that about 25 years ago a fur buyer and trap collector passing through saw it and offered me $350 cash on the spot for it. He said it was a genuine Newhouse for sure.
Anybody out there in PM land wanna take a stab at what this thing might be worth? Or know of a place on the Web that might could tell me?
Thanks,
dc
