If hunting alone, I recommend a scan light and a shooting light. Scan light can be head mounted or handheld. Use lower brightness if the intensity is adjustable. If not, use the outer portion of the light not the center. Scan continuously. Once you pick up eyes, keep the light on them so the predator can’t see you. As the animal approaches shooting range, turn on gun light and slowly lower light beam onto the animal to avoid spooking. I turn off my head mounted scan light at this time to avoid illuminating my rifle, and then I look through the scope and start tracking the animal, using a light smooch or bark to stop a coyote for the shot.
Light color of your choice, I don’t think it matters as long as you gradually expose the animal to full brightness.
If I hunt with someone else, I normally let them shoot and I stand behind them and scan with a handheld which I also use as the shooting light as the animal is in range. I’m also doing the calling and stopping of the coyote.
This is the quick and dirty. Hope it helps.
