Night vision question.

Hi all, seeking advise once again. Thank you all for the other insights and advise you have rendered me. I am kicking around the idea of mounting a night vision scope on a black rifle. I've seen that the prices are slowly decreasing probably due to there being more and more options. Any suggestions on brand/ model. Id like estimates on price too if you know it. I'm think variable power in neighborhood of 2x10. Also will these scopoes function during daylight? Please forgive my ignorance.

If your going to drop the coin on nv, save your money and buy gen 3. If u want to use a variable power scope you will have to run a clip on night vision sight. Pvs 22,26,27,30, cnvd lr,etc. one of these units new will run from 8-11k. There are some cheaper units on the market like the night optics d930/950 and the armasight co lr, etc but I am not familiar with them. Their prices range from 3-5k. A good 6x dedicated scope will do just about everything you need it and can be had for much cheaper, also keep a look out on the classifieds forum I see nv scopes every now and then for sale.

Google NV scopes & you will see 100s of them at a broad price range across the web.
You can read until you are blue in the head w/all the specs then decide.
Look at 3.5-5K minimum for a top line 3rd gen NV scope in 4-6x.
No variable NV scopes though only made in fixed powers unless as stated above...clip ons.
Over all it will depend on where you live and what your terrain/usage will be that makes the most input on your choice of a night scope.
No need for a 6x if you are calling in heavy woods and 300 yards so to speak IMO.
I run a D740 3rd gen scope out here in WY and my terrain is from close in gullies/tall grasses/rolling hills to wide open flat terrain and I have no issues or a need for a 6x.

If your going to save the money for a Gen 3, by pass it and keep saving for a thermal... I know that may be out of a lot of guys budgets and if it is, may I suggest an optic that will work in day and night at a fraction of the cost... The ATN X-Sight.

what are u wanting to do with it. and what are ur expectations. like previously stated if u want daytime ability with a variable, ull have to go to a clip on. which imo is more versatile anyways. u can also use it as a viewer then clip it onto a pic.rail on an ar. if ur planning on doing hogs at nite the lower power the better. u can walk up to them within 25 yards at night if u got the wind right.
