Night vision scope help

Hey everyone I'm new here and have been searching information in this forum on night vision scopes as I am looking to buy one before next season (starts in November here in IL) I am primarily using it for coyotes mounted on a ar 15 in 6.8 spc. I'm needing something that I will be able to id the coyote at atleast 200 yds as we generally hunt fields at night. I would like to be able to see the eye shine from the IR further than that. This past year I tagged along with some guys that had pvs 14 in 3rd generation but can't remember the brand. I am more interested in a dedicated scope and not really looking at the digital ones as I feel the battery life shortness would become a nuisance to me. Right now I am leaning towards the 2nd gen 4x Luna scope or the Armasight nemesis in 4x and 2nd gen. Problem is I understand the Luna uses better quality tubes and a few pounds lighter but cant find much else on them as far as customer satisfaction and I was hoping someone with any insight could help me with their opinion. The nemesis seems to be pretty well liked but I wouldn't mind spending a little more for a clearer image if the Luna was more similar to a gen 3 without spending a lot more to actually get a gen 3. Besides the scope I am also interested in a binocular or monocular to search with as last year we just used the scope to scan with and it became tiring. So if anyone could help me decide on either of those scopes or a different one that may suit my needs in the $2000 ish price range and some insight on something cheaper to scan with I would appreciate it. Thanks

try here hightechredneckinc. kevin has videos on about all his stuff. he is a sponsor here on predator masters. I have the nemesis 4x quicksilver & it works just fine. i have killed coyotes at 180 yards & could go farther. kept in mind images thru scope is better than videos. check him out you won't be disappointed. he is in your state.

Thanks for the info and the nemesis seems to be a good clear scope I was just wondering if the Luna ers40m scope was worth the extra money. As I have little experience with night vision what do you think the farthest range a coyote could be recognized (not necessarily shot) with the nemesis gen 2 scope is?

Dholsapple,

I am not familiar with the Luna Optics model you are asking about and I have not been able to find any customer reviews on them looking on the internet. It seems they are mostly sold by the company that manufactures them. We sell the Armasight brand and you can check out our field reviews of the Armasight Nemesis Quick Silvers (White Phosphor) in 4X and 6X at the links below:

Armasight Nemesis 6X -

Armasight Nemesis 4X -

You can also see our hunter package deals (starting at 2,150) on these scopes which include a Binocular or monocular for scanning, the Nemesis 4X or 6X Quicksilver, and two T-20 IR devices in 850nm. You can take a peek at the package deals here: http://www.hightechredneckincorporated.com/product-p/nvpd2050.htm

If you live near Rushville, IL you can make and appointment and come over and view them for yourself.

Kevin

Kevin,
Your hunters packages sound like something I would be interested in and look like a great price as well if I go with the Armasight. I've never looked thru a white phosphorus tube, do you prefer it to the green/black picture? I did notice some eye strain after 4-5 hours of looking thru the green and black and wondered if the wpt tubes helped relieve that somewhat. Does the quick silver offer any noticeable better definition or brightness compared to the same tube in green/black? Thank you for your insight.

Kevin you have my attention as well. I am currently using a photon xt and having great success with it, but would like to see the the packages your offering for the future. My wife and I live about 2hrs and 45 minutes from you im gonna make an appointment with you to come see these products for myself and gain some insight as to an upgrade possibly..

No problem Bill just give me a call or send me an email before you make the trip so I can make sure we have everything in stock. Kevin

Have 2 scopes from Kevin. The D740 and the Nemesis gen2+ in 4x. Excellent scope for the money. While the 740 is tops I would put the Nemesis at around 75% of the 740. Have shown both to many around here and many plan to purchase because of quality for the price. Could make shots out to 300 with full moon, IR torch, or snow cover. If you put it in the search or look back in the night calling section you should find plenty of positive feedback on this scope.

Dholsapple,

Just now noticed your questions on this post that I did not respond to, sorry. I think the white phosphor is a step up from the green and therefore, it would be my preference if the option premium is reasonable. Armasight offers the white phosphor option on their Nemesis scopes for only a slight premium to the green so we really think that is the best deal for this brand of scope. I don't seem to experience any eye strain regardless of whether I'm using a white phosphor or a green phosphor. Your eye strain might be caused by not adjusting the rear diopter correctly on the equipment you are using. If not adjusted correctly then your eye will be constantly trying to focus the image which could cause strain. The white phosphor seems to give you a better picture (contrast between different objects is more defined) and more of a daytime view experience over the green. Let me know if you have any additional questions. Kevin
