Night vision scope

I have no experience with night vision and want to have one for nocturnal hog hunting. Range is usually under 100 yards. What type of night vision scope do you know and would recommend?
Thanks

What kind of gun and cal.? Do you presently have a dayscope mounted? What kind of hunting? Sitting in a blind or stalking?

Howard,

I use a mono attached to my dayscope, but you should have at least a 50mm objective to allow as much light in as possible. I like the mono better than a dedicated N/V scope because I'm in my stand while it's still daylight and you can't turn on NV until it's dark. I can attach the NV to my scope in the dark in my stand in just a few seconds. I have the Gen II SHP, which I would consider the minimum. There is a wealth of good information from people MUCH more knowledgable than myself here

Good luck.

JB55 makes a good point about going with a GenII sight. I worked with GenI sights, and they are not adequite for a hunting rifle from my experience. Of course I'd want to go with a GenIII, but.... the prices are WAY high for them.
GenI sights are less expansive, but I wouldn't spend the money for one that I wouldn't be satisfied with. So, the answer is GenII.

Thanks guys. I cannot afford Gen III....:))

I guess I have to look at some good quality LED light instead.

Come to think about it, is there any medical concern with using night vision on extended basis?

I just purchased a Gen III PVS-14 for this same reason and it Rocks! I use it behind a EOTech 552 ( NV Compatible ) first time out this Saturday bagged a nice 70 pounder. We set up our feeder inside a creek that is covered by trees with little starlight and no moon coming in Hand Holding the unit you could easily make out the hogs under the feeder @ about 40 yds away this was pitch black to the naked eye!

So I mounted it behind the EOTech and the Image darkened a little maybe I need to adjust the distance between the optics a bit but it was a little harder to verify the targets but still visible to identify and to take a shot. So for the darkest nights I just ordered a Surefire M1 IR Illuminator but when we got out of the creek and started checking the open fields this thing was as clear as day I guess a little ambient light goes a long way with these units! But I don't regret this purchase at all I was looking at the Gen 2 SHP stuff but decided to wait it out a little and get the Gen III.

The PVS-14 Night Vision monocular runs anywhere from $3,300 - $3,800 depending where you buy it. I purchased both the NV & EOTech from GG&G since they gave me the best price on it and included some extras like the weapon mount and a storage case from Bladetech the mount alone is $200+ and it was included free! it was a pretty sweet deal I paid less than $3,300 for the night vision with extras which is cheaper than what most have just the PVS-14 listed for.

The EOTech is $499 for the 552 model (Night Vision compatible) which also includes a quick release mount and some nifty screen covers also from GG&G.

I'd like to think I could buy just the PVS-14 for $1500!!!!! Much less with the EO Tech. I would order 10 or 15 of them right now.
