I just thought I would ask you guys if any of you guys use Night Vision optics, mostly like the one's that they sell in Cabela's. Is it worth it to buy them and is Generation II & III worth the EXTRA money? I have been wanting to get something for night vision, I was just wanting to know what the night hunters use. I am wondering this because Spotlighting is not allowed in New Mexico at this present time. Thanks for any replys and information that you can provide.

I have a 160 ITT and it is very good for what I use it for. Scouting for game and checking fields at night. My buddy has a ITT 6015 that I have used.I have tried both Gen 1 and Gen 2 and the Gen 3 is by far the best. I think you can see better at night with very good optics than you can see with Gen 1.It really costs to get the best but it is worth the wait to get the best. If you want to shoot with the night vision I would think that the ITT 6015 would be my choice to buy. It is around $3000.00 to buy and there is an adapter to fit most scopes. If you use the night vision I would --not-- get Binoculars. Monoculars are the way to go. You should only use your left eye or nonshooting eye with night vision as you lose your own night vision when looking threw the viewer. Everything looks green for about 20 to 30 minutes after use. I can get you more info if you want just let me know. Ter

Ter,
I would definately like more info. Are those models the Night Owl, or are they a different model. Any additional information would be appreciated. From everywhere that I've seen the monoculars are alot cheaper than the binoculars. I can give you my email address if you want send me the additional info like that. Thanks.

Night Owl is Gen 1. I have gone the route of spending my money on Gen 1 and Gen 2 stuff. Don't make my mistakes. The only true night vision is Gen 3. I like the ITT stuff. The Accurate Rifle Magazine Dec.02 has a very good article on pg.64. It is about Tactical Solutions using night vision. They test out the mono-Loc System that connects the night vision to the scope or range finder. We have done this by just holding the night vision to the scope but it is very awkward. Al Talbot of Talbot QD Mounts is making a Quik detach mount for Night vision use.I think you can get the article by calling Accurate Rifle at 1-860-645-8776. Get me your "E" mail and I will try to get you some more info.and some better prices . Ter

Gonzaga- Ter is right on all points. Don't waste your money on Gen 1 stuff, go for Gen 3. All Gen 1 will do is make you wish you had! You still have to pay attention to setup in every way like daytime; stay in the dark shadows as they can see much better at night than we can-possibly as good as we can w/ Gen 3! But you will find they are less cautious than during daytime. It helps to have a partner, as your field of view is limited, and by yourself you will call up more than you will see. This link is to a forum by US Night Vision, one of the leading sellers of NV in the US. I have found it to be very informative.

I just bought a scope from us night vision. extremely well made. the D-443 is a gen 3 weaponsight and is built to be accurate. I was shooting mine and feel I could target a coyote at 300yds or more. I crosshair is fine so it won't cover up much of the target.

I just went to the range to sight in my Gen III ATN 7900. I attached it to an AR-15 with carry handle via an adapter mount that goes on the carry handle and makes it a weaver-style mount.

It did not work. The whole rig is cantilevered so far out there that my zero kept shifting. To make matters worse, I kept putting my hand on the scope to block out more light and that little bit of pressure would move everything. I hope it's the mount and not the scope, at least.

I'm now dumping my current upper in favor of a flat-top and we'll see how well that works.

Otherwise, I like the ATN 7900 OK. It's a little heavy, but with great ergonomics and functionality.

I used some of the cheaper night vision bushnell offers for a while. got rid of them and got a real nice pair of binos and can see way more with them than the bushnells.

Anyone had a chance to check out the Gen 4 stuff yet? Would the difference in price make up for bumping up to Gen 4($1500-$2000 difference)? And I agree with the other posters Don't waste your money on the gen 1 stuff, its funtional at best, save up and go Gen 3 you won't belive the difference.

Gen. 4? I need to do a new search, didn't know generation 4 existed.

Here in Oregon, hunting at night is allowed but the use of artificial light is not. Night vision is the only option.

I agree that Gen III is the only nightvision worth having.

For hunting, I've been blown away by the military standard PVS-7 goggles. I'm using mine to search, then moving to a NV scope when I spot something coming my way.

With the goggles, for close shooting (50 yards and less) I can use a laser sight (OK) or an infra-red sight (better). Through the NV goggles, you can see the infra-red dot and not even the coyote can see it.
