Nobody is probably going to reply, so I'll give you my .02 although it may not be worth a shoot. I see guys bashing everything but the $2,000+ setups. I can afford the high $$ stuff, but I can't justify it (and my wife goes ballistic over it) and I am going to buy the same. Need something to go out to 100 yds or a little more. Cabelas has the best price right now and I'll look through it before I mount it to see if it is satisfactory. If not, I'll send back for a refund. Altough they have the best price right now, I always purchase from a reputable source, ( Cabelas, Midway,...)so that I can get a refund if the product sucks. Just don't mount it and try to return. IMHO, if you wait until you can pay $3,000, you may never own one.??? Just my .02. Watch out little piggies!!!!

JB55 you need to look thru several different makes to find what you really want.
Maybe you should just bit the bullet and buy a Gen +2 or 3 and have it sent you your buddies.LOL
I have looked thru alot and Gen 3 is the way to go but gen plus 2 works real well also.
Also If you buy the cheaper stuff it is hard to get ride of,where Gen 2 or higher sells faster.

Hi ya,
We ALWAYS tell our customers to save for at least a Gen 2 device. Anything less, will not give you the resolution and brightness to engage anything with clarity even at 50-75 yards. Gen 1 lacks this resolution and brightness to hunt with serious intentions. Hope this helps.

I appreciate the feedback guys. I wish there was a dealer in my area that I could walk into a store and actually look through something before purchasing as this would be ideal. I am not fortunate enough to be able to. I am also in somewhat of a dilemma in that I just purchased 50 acres of land in December and since then I've purchased two four wheelers, a 28' travel trailer, generator, storage shed, two sets of feeder lights, a couple treestands, built a 4'X8' elevated platform and numerous other items and I hired someone to come in and dig a pond and clear several acres of thick brush. So far my wife hasn't said a word and she doesn't hunt. I can't justify $2-3K for something I don't need. I can buy another set of feeder lights and another battery for $300. A nightvision scope would be nice, but not a necessity. If I can get one for $500 that will allow me to see hogs coming in before they get to the feeders, then I would buy one. If not, I'll have to wait until they get to the feeders or use my spotlight. I don't doubt Vic that Gen II or III would be MUCH better. Wise choice Jeff to save a bit. Your spotlight will do well in the meantime. I feel the $500 you would have spent would have left you very disappointed with NV altogether! The D-300 Gen 2 would do well behind your day scope especially with an IR illuminator. You would be in the 1200-1400K range.

Bought the YUKON NVRS tactical & had it out hog hunting Thursday night.
Had no problem seeing 3-400 yards (3/4 moon & fairly clear sky). On dark nights w/no moon/heavy clouds, I can see 150 yards w/illuminator. Ordered IR filter ($30) for my white light & understand that it will greatly increase my range of vision.
2.7x is a little hard for me to take aim @ over 100 yards.
Saw 3 coyotes, 1 baby pig & a bunch of skunks.
For $600 it's a deal.
I cannot afford Gen 2 so that's not even an option & this works well for me.
Buy 1 from someone that will let you return if you don't like it but for the money it's a goood deal.

I just purchased the Paladin from Cabelas. I have to say that it's a very decent scope for the money. I have no trouble seeing out to 200 yards with it in an open field at night. I use Gen 3 stuff at work, so I'm a bit spoiled, but I can certainly live with the performance of the Paladin Mk 390 scope. I would recommend it.
