Nightforce nxs is what I shoot.same scope you are contemplating in the 56mm. I maybe would consider going to a 50mm next to make it a little trimmer.I sighted my in six years ago and have never had to readjust. It gets dragged all over the country, dropped, banged you name it.
I use the elevation knobs to dial in range and hold dead on. The internals have always returned to zero. The massive nightforce rings and bases also help this. I like the np1 rr reticle. But I think that is personal preference.I have tasco, leupold, zeiss, bausch ,shephard, etc.I like my nightforce best if I had just one Nightforce would be it.
biggest drawback are weight and price.p.s. Stocking dealer is Garys gunshop Sioux falls,sd. Good people. They have a website

I had a 3.5-15x56 with the nprr1(i think thats what it was called) I did not like it for night calling for two reasons. 1. The entire reticle lights up making it very "busy" inside the scope and kind of hard to find eyes. If you got one of the reticles without all the ranging lines it may be ok.
2. The illumination itself is not adjustable for brightness on the NXS models without taking out the battery and adjusting a little screw. Depending on how far out something is, I sometimes have to turn down the illumination on my Leupolds to get the crosshairs on the eyes without washing them out. This is impossible with the nightforce.
I like the Leupolds best for night calling with my favorite being the 4.5-14x50 mildot. I have several of the leupold ill scopes 3.5-10x50, 4.5-15x50 both 1", 4.5-14x50 30mm, and a Mark 4 M1 3.5-10 but I like the 4.5-14x50 30mm mildot the best for an allround calling scope.

thanks guys... still trying to decide which way to go...

local gun shop is not to keen on Leupold cause their CS sux...

He has had bad luck with warranty issues lately.... 2 much down time...

NF seems like a great scope from all the info... just weight and $$ issues

Thanks /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

Its a great store--I've been in it quite often because I went to collage 50 miles from the store, and still get there about once a year. Very knowledgable people.

Another great NF source:

Sniper's Hide posters can't say enough great things about him. I ordered my NF from him, and he then placed the order w/ NF who built it for me and drop shipped it. Got it in about 2 weeks. Pretty cool getting the scope and seeing the inspection sticker date is 4 days old! He was very helpfull. CS Gunworks does a lot of tacticle and police sales, and Mike does a lot of tacticle shooting.

I put a 3.5-15x50 on my AR late last summer--awsome scope.
Mine has the newer NP-R1 reticle-- 1 MOA lines on the verticle, and 2 MOA horizontal. A little busy, and quite fine lines--they are easy to lose on a black target, but I'd still buy it. Nice thing is the reticle and adjustment knobs are both MOA--see the bullet impact 2 MOA left, dial in 2 MOA and shoot, or just use the 2 MOA line and shoot. Another good option is MLR (Mil Dot but lines), because the lines are thicker--but if you get this, consider having the scope built w/ Mil adjustment knobs too (extra money), so you don't have to do that mental math--how many MOA is 2.5 mils when the coyote is standing out there????

I've got the NightFoce Unimount for mine on the AR-15. Never thought I'd buy a $250 scope mount, but a single piece aluminum mount is strong and looks clean. The NF is a big, long scope, and the Unimount extends forward so you can get the scope forward enough. Larue Tactical makes great mounts that move the scope forward also.

Get a NF, you won't be disappointed (well, maybe the lighted reticle will give you some fits due to the adjustment style. Recommend setting it for a dark nite, and hope it is good enough at all other times).
Good luck
Drano

Thanks for the great info...

The weight and size is not an issue for you ?

Where can I get info or see the newer NP-R1 reticle ?

Yes, it is black in the daytime and pull out the knob to turn it on at night or low light.

It is fully adjustable for brightness. You have to remove cover and battery and turn allen screw.

I am learning as I ask questions and find answers.

Just a FYI I bought a Leupold Vari-x III 2.5-8 with a busted retical at a garage sale for $25 sent it to Leupold for $4.05. They sent it back a couple of weeks later fixed and a letter of apology. All in all I have a like new leupold for under 30 bucks. Pretty good customer service to me.

I also have a Leupold Mk IV and a Nightforce NSX. I couldn't recommend the NSX for anything other then a bench gun though because it is a heavy son of a gun. Mine is on a Barrett, so weight is not an issue since the rifle is over 30lbs. Also the fact that the Leupold is alot easier to adjust the ill. retical makes it a winner in my book.

Do you have to adjust your ret. often ?

how does your luppy compare to NXS on night hunting ?

What reticle do you have in your luppy ?

Thanks....

I have yet to adjust the Retical on the Leupold, BTW it is on a Les Baer Super Varmint in Quick Release Arms Rings. I have yet to have a problem with the tracking on the Leupold, it always returns to zero with no problems at all. I can twist the turrets all the way to the right or left fire a couple of rounds, and it all ways returns to dead center.

I will admit the NSX is alittle brighter being a 56mm but it is heavy and you cannot adjust the brightness as easily as turning the dial, like the Leupold. So even though it is a little brighter it is not enough to make up for the weight or lack of adjustablity IMHO.

I Have the Mil-Dot Retical in Both.

I would buy either again depending on what the application would be. If it was going to be a bench gun I'd get a Nightforce, if I was going to be for anything else I would buy a Mark IV.

Hope it helps.
