Nightforce Walkabout or Night Hunter 170?

Gentlemen,
I'm trying to decide whether to go with the Night Hunter 170 or the Walkabout kit for coyote/fox calling duty. The salient difference being the Night Hunter is setup for weapon mounting whereas the Walkabout is strictly a hand held proposition. I've never called without a partner and don't forsee mounting the light on my scope. That said I wonder if the extra capability, of weapon mounting, is not worth the slightly less ergonomic handle of the Night Hunter? What are your thoughts?

Regards, Matt.

Matt,

I just got a 170 and man is it great. Hear are my thoughts on hand helds Vs. Scope mounted.

With a scope mounted light, you will always be looking down the light beam and will always see the eyes glowing. In my experience, I have not been able to see the glowing eyes at times when my buddy was holding the light. To correct this, I would have my buddy stand just behind me to shine and that would cause a blinding effect in my scope.

With a scope mounted unit, it may not be the most ergonomic, but it still makes a great handheld. I was using mine last night to scan fields from the truck. I had no problems with it.

In the event that you do want to night hunt and cannot find a partner for the night, you have that scope mounted light.

Which ever you choose though you will be one happy camper with the Lightforce. I know I am.

MY son and I both are useing the 170,mounted under the barrel. We both agree it works great, the170 light is the cats meoww. I vote you go 170 and you will not regret it period. Good luck /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif
