I know some of the other states near ky allow nitetime hunting does anyone know why fish and game wont allow us to hunt at night or is there any talk about it in the future?
I wish they would allow it ,it would be fun to try something different. I also wish they would change our shot laws and lift the ban on #4 buck. ANYKIND OF BUCK IS ILLEGAL (this is ignorant)
The main reason for no night hunting in any state is poaching.
The people who write these laws need to understand that poachers are going to hunt at night no matter what the law says.
Having legal night hunting for predators puts honest hunters out in the field at night, turning in the poachers.
The game Wardens are home sleeping when all this goes on, so who better to turn in the poacher then us who care.
I moved to KY from Michigan earlier this year and was bummed to find out that nite hunting was not permitted.
Do you know who/how the game laws are reviewed & implemented? When I was in Michigan I put up a "survey" page on the internet dealing with several issues for predator hunting, and then forwarded the data to the correct people; don't know if it was the data or just common sense but they changed a couple of the rules for the better.
Predator hunting is somewhat of a new thing and doesn't get much consideration by most of wildlife divisions, but if we make the effort we might get some change.
I talked to a game warden and the reason he gave me for buckshot being ilegal has something to do with, small game seasons, interfering with deer season and rabbit and squirrel hunters will jump a buck, throw in a buckshot shell and drop the deer.
Hey timberdawg, where in ky are you? Im in boyd co, outside of ashland

Getfoxy, I'm just a little distance away (I think), we're in Bath County.
So far I called in a Bobcat that I couldn't get a shot at and a Grey Fox on Property that the owner doesn't want me to kill the fox...he hunts them with dogs.
This terrain is a major change from what I'm used to, and unfortunately I didn't get to do my annual trek to Nebraska....I'm going through withdrawl here on killing Coyotes.
I talked to the KDFW a few years ago about night hunting and you guys are right, they are worried about poaching. I pointed out that coon hunting is allowed and that puts hunters out in the woods with lights and guns. Did not seem to matter. I still like hunting fox at night, I just have to go to Indiana to do it.
