Nikon 2-7x "shotgun" scope?

Any reason this can't be used on a rifle as well?

Looking through the specs, the only odd thing I notice is that parallax is set at 75 yards instead of 100 yards that I thought most rifle scopes were set at. But that seems like a small issue, especially if I'm putting it on rimfire .22

Any comments?

I used a 2-7 leupold shotgun scope on my AR-15 the past 2 years in upstate NY. I used the rifle primarily as a night shooter and woods gun, and most of the shots were less than 75 yards, and it worked great. I was going to say that you might find the heavier crosshairs a hinderance for long range precision shooting, but I guess on a rimfire, you wouldn't really be as concerned with that.

I am considering that same scope for use on the 458 Socom Ar I am building. It would be an option along with Irons and electronic dot sights. Since the Socom is a brush gun catridge with Ballistics almost identical to the 45-70 long range is really not a concern but toughness and recoil resistance is. If that scope can stand up to 12 Gauge recoils the 458 In a seven pound semi auto should not be a problem.

i really don't know why they market these as a "shot-gun" scope /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif i used to have one it bounced between a few rifle's..i think it's a good scope for it's price range..mine had the nikoplex reticle..i think that's what they still have ??..IMHO..it would be a great rim-fire scope..

I have been pondering getting one of these for a .30-06/12ga. combo gun I have recently purchased. I do not
anticipate shots longer than 200 yards and the circle
reticle can be useful for range finding, pulling lead on
moving targets and covering the pattern on the shotgun.

Just a thought.....

I think that they really trying to target the shotgun users on this scope. Most shotgunners use a 2-7x scope for deer hunting. As you have stated the only difference is the parallax setting, which can be used on a rifle no problem for big game situation.

Karl; I have a Nikon 3-9 X 40 Muzzle-loader scope w/BDC reticle on it. I also have one of those 12 ga over a 30-06s. I really like it and think it will make a great critter gun. I bought the MZ scope because I was worried about having the scope hit me in the eye when the 12 ga was fired. This scope has an eye relief of 5 inches. The BDC is set up for 250 yards, so that might be the ticket for you.
Good luck in your choice.

I have a couple of the Nikon Prostaff 2-7x32 scopes, one is on a 500S&W H&R, it's gone through lots of heavy loads, from 350gr XTPs at 2150fps to 700gr Ranger Ricks at 1430fps, works fine. I like that one so much, I bought another when Midsouth had em on sale last year, both are the camo version. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

OBOne,

Many thanks for the feedback on the 3-9 power shotgun
scope. I will keep this in mind. I like the BDC to
250 yards--very handy!

I can hardly wait to hunt coyotes with this rig, using
110 to 125 grain bullets for the '06 and "T" size HeavyShot
for the 12ga. Should be mucho fun!

Cheers,
