I can't decide between a Nikon coyote special 3x9x40 or the Weaver classic extreme 2.5x10x50 with illuminated dot. Whats better for yotes? Whats better for occasional night hunting?

I doubt the coyote special would be a wise choice for night hunts. I don't have any experience with the Nikon, though. From the reviews ... you'll either like that little circle or you're going to hate it. Get the Weaver.

A member that goes by claimbuster, currently has a Burris Euro Diamond 3-12x56 with illuminated reticle in the classifieds on here. If you could afford to spend a little more this scope would be an awesome choice for the occasional night hunts, too! Jim's stuff is always top-notch ... he takes good care of all his stuff. Check it out. You'd be saving a ton of money compared to buying it new.

I have a Coyote Special that I took off my rifle because it didnt perform well at night. If you do more calling at night than day I would look at some other scopes. I went with a Swarovski and have no complaints.

Ended up trading a local gun shop for an old Roger 10/22 and some cash and got a Burris full field e1 ballistic reticule 4.5-14. I really like it so far. Very crisp picture

I really like my Nikon Coyote Special.. As quoted its not made to punch paper just fur.. I don't hunt at night so can't comment on that application. If you decide to go with a illuminated scope I highly recommend only the dot in center of the retical be illuminated!! Illumination of the entire redical is decent at best at dusk yet only gets worse due to too much light inside the scope.. Washes out the scope...

I had the coyote special. Never liked it. As far as illuminated scope reticles. I've never had good luck with them. Seems like the red or the green even on the lowest setting was too much, and could not see down range worth a darn.
