Nikon M223 scope

A buddy told me to check out the Nikon M223 scope as I want a scope for my 223. Are the callibrated for a 223 or why is it called a M223. Also thinking of a used Zeiss I can get for $735.00 to my door but that is a 6.5x20x50

Still don't know what scope to buy. Looked at the Leopold Mark AR 6-18x40 but it doesn't have the side paralex knob. Also the Leopold and Nikon M223 are setup for the 55 grain tip bullet and that is what I am using but mine are at 2800fps ans it says it is for 3240 fps so will they evan be accurate for me?

Do you need that large of a magnification range? I'd say get a 3-12x M-223. I shoot 55gr SP rather than the ballistic tips but they have nearly the same ballistics, so out to 300 yards (farthest I'll be shooting) there won't be much of a difference. I'd also recommend getting the Nikoplex reticle since the BDC defeats the purpose of the rapid action turrets. This setup is also about half the price of the Zeiss...or the Mark AR 4-12x and practice with Mil-dots.

Coy, you are correct that Nikon's M-223 scope is set up around the .223 Cal., 55 grain polymer tipped bullet with a MV of 3240 fps.
That being said, I have shot some slower rounds and impacted 10 in. steel plates at 400 yards without a problem.
If you decide you are going to consistantly shoot your 2800 fps ammo, you may want to consider Nikon's M-223 with the BDC reticle. I would aslo suggest you checking out Nikon's Spot On Ballisitic Program to more finely tune your rifle, scope and ammo. This will give you more exact distances for each BDC circle. When predator hunting, I like most fo my friends sit and range objects just in case I don't have time to range a particular animal. Makes for much faster target acquisition. I have shot all the M-223 Series scopes, except for the 1-4 PBR out to 600 yards and had successful hits. Actually went 10 for 10 at 600 yards one time thanks tot his scope because I surely am not that good a shooter.
Drop me a note if you have any questions.
Bart

Can you get custom dials for the m223 like you can other nikon scopes? Say I wanted one for a 6.5 and called nikon for new dials. Can they or will they do that?

Leupold Mark AR has covered turrets (caps) so you don't have to worry about them getting turned, like when you put your rifle in a case. They will also build you custom turrets for your loads.

I have the m223 with the nikoplex reticle on my AR with a 16" barrel. Now I am shooting 50gn v-max right at 3000 fps (actually 29 and some change), so I sighted mine in about 1/2" high at 100. That puts me just about dead on at 200 and pretty darn close at 300.

Oh yea, the glass is pretty good. Not far off from my Zeiss.
