Nikon Monarch problem Anyone dealt with their CS and warranty?

I went out this morning to make a set on our farm. It was cold, for here. 23 degrees, wind chill was 8 degrees. After I got set up, caller on and mojo critter making mojo, I started to pan the field with my scope. Well, that didn't work out too well since the inside of the scope was fogged up. It was like trying to look through a white T shirt with crosshairs. I bought this scope new and it's only 3 years old. Our deer will be rutting in about 2 weeks, and this scope is on my favorite hunting rifle. Needless to say I'm a little peeved.

Do any of you know if this is a warranty issue? If it's not it sure should be.

sounds to me like a broken seal and allowing moisture inside the scope. Don't know how long nikons warranty is but if it is longer than 3 years, it needs to go back to nikon.

That in time for your hunt part is what's got me worried.

I agree, broken seal. They have a 25 year warranty, it should be covered? It better be covered. I just wondered if anyone had experience with their Customer Service.

From nikons web site,

Nikon stands behind its products by offering the best consumer protection in the business. These warranties and protection policies cover products marketed and sold in the U.S.A. only.

Thier customer service from what i have seen is great. My long time huntin buddie was not to happy when the verticle adjustment went south on an older monarch 5x20.He called nikon they told him what to do and gave him an RA# so he sent the scope back figuring it would just be repaired and 2 or 3 weeks later he recieved a brand new monarch 5x20x44SF.Thats customer service.

Don't feel like the Lone Ranger! I sent in a new Buckmaster (three weeks old) last month because of what looked like a small piece of something floating around inside, causing a slight distraction when looking through the scope. Followed their instructions that included a detailed explantion. The scope was back in ten days and clear as can be! In fact, I could now see that distraction (I thought was dirt or something WAS STILL THERE) looks to be a chip on the inside edge of the front glass. Since it's on the edge, I've learned to block it out of my mind because Nikon can sure clean 'em, but they don't seem to want to fix 'em if it's under warranty. Think I'll go with another manufacturer next time I buy a scope. Can't wait for that "Customer Satisfaction Survey!"

fur fly'n...as has been said,it will be covered by nikon's lifetime warranty...a buddy had a real old monarch (back when they only had a 90 or 180 day warranty-early 90's?) developed a crosshair issue and they replaced it with a current monarch....gawd,was he tickled!
i hav a bunch of their scopes and hav never had to send one in....

I had a Buckmaster on my rifle and it fogged up also. I called up Nikon, got all the shipping info and sent it on Dec. 21. I've called three times and they can't find my scope. CS rep was very rude and said they were backlogged and hadn't processed all of their incoming inventory. I spoke with a supervisor and he said, "I don't know what to tell you". I'll probably not buy another Nikon product if they dont get this fixed in a reasonable amount of time.

So far I am not impressed with Nikons customer service and I haven't even sent the dang scope back. I called their 800 number yesterday and could barely understand the person on the phone. The automated system asks if you are calling from the US to press 1. You'd think once you do that they would at least put someone on the line who speaks good english. This lady kept saying "I sorry sir, I no can hear you." Basically I wasted my time calling them, because she finally told me I had to download a form off the internet to fill out. At least that's what I think she said. If they don't fix my scope or send me a new one quickly I'm gonna be really ticked. I sure do miss being able to buy affordable American made products. Someone please remind me why we've sold our country to China?

Because all american businses want to get rich quick, if they cant get rich, close it down, send it elsewhere, or sell it to someone who thinks they can get rich, enough is never enough. ed

Actually that was a rhetorical question, but thanks for the reply. It does have to do with greed, both from the companies and from the employees. A company that pays an employee $18 an hour also pays around an additional $9 an hour for the perks for that employee. Add in all the government mandates, OSHA, EPA, employee walkouts, and the like and I can't really blame the companies for wanting to go to a more "friendly" environment. We've done this to ourselves, and the government has helped. Most everyone wants more for less, more pay for less work, more goods for less money, more quality for less money, more house for a lower monthly payment. We've about "wanted" ourselves into a Socialist society.
