Nikon VS Bushnell ????

Which is the better choice ? Nikon Monarch 3-12x42mm side focus with BDC reticle or Bushnell Elite Tactical 5-15x40 with A.O. mildot reticle?

I would ask myself about the reticle. With either scope, what do you require? Why would you like a BDC reticle or a Mildot over a standard crosshair? If you know the reasons for each, then you should be able to make a proper choice. Good luck.

The BDC is reason for me to not get the Nikon. Not a fan...I prefer the Nikon scopes, just not that ret.

Either is good, but I think the fit and finish is better on the Nikon. And the Bushnell scopes are heavier, but I don't think that automatically means more robust.

JMO based on owning a few of each..

Hehe. I prefer the bdc ret. and i prefer nikon. I feel like the glass was clearer in the nikon. I did like the magnification on the 6500s but they just didn't seem as clear to me.

Thanks Guys. I've always heard that Nikons are clearer. Its always good to hear from someone who has had both. Not sure if I like the BDC reticle. I would think it would take some getting use to!

Better for what?

Better for buttering your bread maybe. Just a guess.

I have ran several of the Bushnell 10 x 40 tacticals and a few of the Nikon ProStaff and buckmaster scopes. I too, am not a fan of the BDC reticle- a have always perferred the Mildots. The bushnell 10x40 tacticals have been very clear and I have only had once scope that didnt track good. The prostaffs hold zero but the glass is not as clear as the buckmasters and bushnells.

Keep it simple and get a Shepherd. I have one (V2) on a FN Special Police Rifle .308 and it is tack on at 785 yards. That is the furthest I have tried it so far according to my Nikon range finder. I do also have two Nikons. My wife's 7mm08 has a 4.5-14x40 Buck Master MilDot with side focus and I have a Coyote special on my 22.250 Howa. Personally I think I should of put a BDC instead of the MilDot but it is there and it works very well.
