Non-Resident AZ coyote hunting

I need info on a non-resident (me) hunting coyotes on my sister's property in region VI, area 23 in Arizona. I assume I will need a Class H, 3 day non-resident license. From what I can figure out, I can only hunt during day and not at night. Is this true? If night hunting is legal, what about the use of lights? Electronic calls? Can you provide chapter & verse from the 2004/2005 regs to support your responce? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Thanks in advance for any help.

Unit 23? Gotta look at the map. Which area is that? Night hunting is illegal in Arizona. I would assume all you would need is the 3-Day non-res license.

Bow Hunter,
Arizona is a "day hunting" ONLY state, even for residents of the state. You may use electronic and hand calls (check special conditions for use of e-calls on Indian lands).

You can, however, use lights, calls (even e-calls) at night ONLY IF: you have no guns or bows or other means of "taking" animals. So, if you want to take pictures, you can do so at night. Just don't "whistle-up" a cougar.....

Hope this helps.

Cheers,

PS: Arizona is an "OPEN CARRY" state, you can carry a sidearm while you hunt predators, if you like (for those 4-legged cougars and 2-legged coyotes). Be sure the side arm is in plain sight.

It IS legal to hunt at night in Arizona...for Raccoon only! lights, weapons, (non-centerfire I believe) and e-callers are allowed. In unit 23 there are a lot of coons down by Roosevelt Lake too. All other hunting is daylight only. Have fun.

I have heard "non- centerfire" and someone told me you had to use dogs at night. BUT I have never seen it in the regs. Anyone know the real story???

It is legal to hunt raccoons at night with artificial light as long as it is not attached to or operated from a vehicle. It does not specify method of take and dogs are not listed except under Pursuit-Only. "Other mammals" as described in the Regs may be hunted at night with artifical light as well however firearms are not permitted.(archery and slingshots only I assume) These include two species of bird and jackrabbits...with no bag limit. This is for 2004! things may have changed for 2005, but I do not have the new Regs yet.

That is what I had seen too. Rest must just be talk.

Thanks
