Non-Resident license fees?

Well, I WAS planning a 4 day weekend up to the upper peninsula to chase coyotes near the 10 acres we own up there. Being from Indiana, I e-mailed the Michigan DNR to make sure I was understanding the license requirements correctly. I was told I need to purchase their $151 base license and the $15 fur harvesting license. I understand the $15 dollar license but the $151 base license took the wind out of my sails. Not sure I want to spend the money for just 3 days of hunting. In Indiana, a non resident can buy a 5 day small game license for $31 and that's it, you're good to hunt all small game. While Michigan has the shorter term small game licenses, it was explained to me that you are still required to buy the base license of $151 and then the small game if hunting grouse, rabbit, squirrel, etc but coyotes fall under the cheaper $15 fur harvester tag. Hope this makes sense.

So humor me, how does Indiana and Michigan compare to where you live?

In Arizona, all non-resident licenses are combination hunt/fish. A license is required for coyotes. The annual license is $160. One day licenses are $20. Youth licenses (10-17 years old) are $5 for the year. There are 9 different species of predators and furbearers and all can be taken by non-residents. A non-resident lion tag is $75 and bobcat export tags are $5.

That doesn’t make any dang sense at all, you should only have to buy the 3 day license, not the full blown hunting license. Why even offer a 3 day tag?

Utah, Wyoming and Nevada do not require any kind of license to kill coyotes. Nevada will if you are keeping them to sell.

Okay, I'm wondering if the person from the Michigan DNR who responded to my e-mail misunderstood something or not. Looking at the regs, it's telling me anyone who buys a 7 day NR small game license does not need the $151 base license. I'm calling them tomorrow morning to get it cleared up. Not sure how they would misunderstand my e-mail.

Anywayyyyyy...so yeah, it's interesting to see what other states charge for non residents. A guy can really do an out of state coyote hunt fairly cheap out west it appears.
