Anyone from North Dakota? Planning a trip to the Medora area..Sentinel Butte to be exact...toward end of July. I've hunted the Badlands a couple times and down around Amidon. I've got some spots marked on GPS. Maybe wondering if anyone nearby might want to get together while I'm down that way and shoot a few.

CusterKid-- I'm not from the Medora/Sentinel Butte/Amidon area, but I am from NW North Dakota and just want to wish you a fun time when you visit down there. As you probably know, there are lots of acres of public land down there for you to utilize. Be careful about off-road driving though, as the rules and regs prohibit getting off the established trails now.

What target animals are you planning on shooting? I have never hunted prairie dogs or anything else down in the Amidon area, but have shot prairie dogs and coyotes just north of Medora, on private land and on National Grasslands.

Give us a report on what kind of success you have with your shooting.

I'm going after prairie dogs but I'll have the coyote license and my calls if that opportunity arises.

Amidon is mostly all private land hunting but it wasn't no problem finding folks more than happy to let you shoot. There's alot of dog towns around Medora but most are hard to find and some are quite ways off the beaten path. When the grasslands map says trail that means you'll be testing your 4 wheel drive.

I knew about the off road regs. They changed after the first year I was there. Didn't mean nothing to me because I wouldn't drive off established 2 tracks anyhow. I own property myself and wouldn't want nobody doing it to mine.

I've got contacts for private land around Medora so it works out well. The public land is alright but usually pretty well utilized and you gotta reach out quite a ways cause they're spooky.

Wife and daughter are going along this trip so they'll get to see the Badland area. It is quite amazing for us easterners.

CusterKid-- As long as you are half ways close to Medora, I'd suggest popping over there to take in the Medora Musical. Fantastic show, with a couple of big-time acts during the intermissions. It is a first-class operation!

i went on a trip to medora a few years ago. it look like really nice country there. dont they have the burning hills and a big outdoor stage or some thing there?
