Sorry this is long, but i am pretty excited about it...Yesterdat after I got off work, I made the 3 hour drive up to PlumbRich's house. We headed out this morning before daylight and got the property a little after first light. This area is on the edge of a mountain that is completely flat on top, and was loaded with coyote and bobcat sign. We got set up on the first stand with me overlooking a bottom with old logging roads on each side of it, and Rich keeping an eye on the dirt road behind us. Rich started the calling with smoe coyote vocalizations and then went into the rabbit distress...about 13 minutes into the set i see a good size coyote pop out on the logging road to my left. That almost messed us up because I am left handed and i had to switch my rifle around to shoot right handed. I tapped Rich on the leg and he swung the camera around to get it on film. Once he was on the coyote, he started coming towards us but stopped and sat down about 125 yards out...Rich gave the signal and I let him have a 55gr PSP from the AR...he went down on his side, rolled around and started to spin. I was so pumped up I didn't even think to shoot again, luckily for us, we ended up not needing to because he didn't make it very far...
We then headed to another part of the property where the coyotes had a trail beat down pretty well crossing under a fence...loads of coyote hair on the bottom strand confirmed that. WE set up and Rich again started blowing the rabbit blues with the occasional coyote vocals mixed in. Their was some very thick woods off to our left and a pasture out in front of us/off to our right. A coyote popped out about 40 yards out, and was looking straight at us. I didn't want to signal to rich and chance spooking the coyote so i went ahead and took the shot. Right in the chest and she never moved...
We made a couple more stands on public land and in between dodgin a couple hundred deer hunters we called one in right before dark but it was so thick we never got a shot on it. All in all, it was a beautiful day, and hopefully we will have some luck again tomorrow.
