What are yalls opinions on buying a predator hunting dvd? There dont seem to be a huge market with all the shows on tv now and being able to watch stuff on utube.

My opinion is a lot of the YouTube stuff is entertainment and teaches very little. The DVDs I have explain and teach way way more. If the purpose of making the content is to make $, the content creator may be better off churning out endless entertainment for years or even a lifetime rather than teach a few times and then there’s nothing left for him to teach. Also if theres other teachers producing stuff they have probably said most of what the potential teacher has to offer already.

Also how many consumers are serious about learning anyways? Most would probably just rather be entertained. The up and coming consumers (youth) can barely tolerate videos longer than 30 seconds nowadays which is another strike against the teaching style. And the older consumers who still appreciate longer and more detailed videos are slowly dying off anyways.

If you’re reading this and serious about learning, then don’t even bother with YouTube in my opinion. Start ordering DVDs right away. I wasted way too much time trying to save $ on YouTube. Cheapa$$ me could have had a freezer full of meat already if I ordered DVDs that explained things right off the bat

Edit: I know the thread is 10 years old but the topic is 100% relevant

I have no idea what the state of the market is for hunting DVD/Bluray media but so much video of all types have gone to streaming. People generally don't seem to be big on physical media any more.

A real problem I see with this is the fact that if it stops being available online, you lose access to it. If you have it on disc, you always have it. You can even make backup copies of it to ensure you don't lose the ability to play it if damaged.

I know a few younger people who like to collect dvds (and other things) seemingly to have a collection more than actually watching them. Similar to collecting baseball cards for example. But yeah Netflix and streaming have changed the game.

I wonder if a clever way to do instructional stuff that also catered to younger people would be to make an entertaining story movie out of it. 2 predator hunters going into the woods for the day arguing about their stand selection explaining details about the wind, setup strategies, specific animal behaviors, different types of calls, and so on. Incorporate ridiculous encounters with ufo’s, Bigfoot, the hillbillies from deliverance, dope growers, stereotypes, hookers, actually crapping their pants when a grizzly shows up, and so on. Can do endless sequels with them going east into the thick, or bobcats, or deer hunting, getting smoked in a coyote competition by a lesbian team from California and trying to figure out their superior calling tactics, etc. low budget ridiculousness with detailed explanations and lessons taught. Sell DVDs and stream them from a site like this.

DVDs supplanted books, online streaming supplanted DVDs, who knows down the road you might be able to stream directly to your brain. Like Stu said streaming can just disappear, cherish your books and DVDs. Did not lone then out unless you have copy. I have a VHS tape of "Heavy Metal" in my safe.
