NV scanning

What's everyone use for scanning with night vision. I'm ordering a photon this week and want to get something for scanning so I'm light free except for the IR and then white light for recovery. I've seen some DIY hand scanners but haven't looked into building one that much. Also considering a monocular and then a IR head lamp so I can spot the eyes from the IR and then switch to the photon for ID.

Ok maybe k should put a price range on here I'm looking to keep it under. I got 5 kids I can't spend 5 grand in a thermal scanner though it would be nice. I'm gonna try to keep it under 700 unless I just save till next season. I seen some hand held digital NV scanners that can be built for around 400.

EJ 230 bullet cam $90
TNVC mini DVR $90
Evolva T20 IR. $40
DIY labor & misc PVC for your hand scanner that records video!

I didn't use it much in the field since I found a used Flir PS32 from Gman on here.

I went out tonight and held the pieces together and shot some video. There's no moon and the far fencepost reflectors are around 100 yards. The focus isn't very good because the camera focus is setup to go on my day scope, not for stand alone viewing. The first half of the video has the T20 zoomed out and the second half has it zoomed in.

Overall, you can probably ID animals around 100 yds and pickup eye shine out to 200-250 yds.

6mm06 has a video he made using the same camera setup and lens with some different lights:

Hope that helps!

The sight mark ghost hunter looks like a decent option says coyote ID at 300 with a T20. I'm having a T50 built for the photon I could always get 2.....
