Recently I've become involved in a program (Wheelin' Sportsmen) that helps disabled hunters get out in the woods to take part in a hunt. This is going to be my first year to volunteer my time and land to the program and will be taking out a Vietnam Vet who hasn't turkey hunted since he ended up in a wheelchair and a 25 year old man who has never taken a turkey. We are all excited!
You too can help by volunteering your time to take someone out on the hunt, offer the use of your land for a Wheelin' Sportsman hunt, or both. Just contact the Wheelin' Sportsman coordinator in your area; they will most likely come meet with you to tell you about the program. They will then do all the work to find a hunter if you don’t already have someone in mind. Just go to the Wheelin' Sportsmen regionall map for the US and Canada and click on your state to find your local coordinator.
This is an awesome program and it will give you the opportunity to make such a positive experience for someone who wouldn't have been able to make the hunt without your help.
