Don't know if anybody else has heard this but I was just informed that Idaho F & G has put all ground squirrels on the endangered, protected list. There's just one place up by McCall that they can still be shot. I can't believe it. There's thousands of them out there. Must be a bunch of "anti" freaks in the Idaho F & G. Our club, Idaho Varmint Hunters, had a "whistle pig" tournament scheduled for April 14th. As of today it's been cancelled. Is your state next?

The president of our club just sent out a message on our forum this afternoon. He was on the phone with F & G today and they told him. He's been keeping on top of this, the F & G has had this in mind for a while. The best thing would be to call F & G. If you want to check out our forum www.idahovarminthunters.com/forum. Or Idaho Varmint Hunters on face book.

Read all through their website, their facebook page, news releases- nothin. Did see the post on IVH - maybe someones tryin to tilt the odds in their favor- no one else shows up I win!~ LOL

Well, they did it. Just recieved some more info. Our club president and secretary have been in touch with state representatives and they say they will talk to F & G next weerk and find exactly what's happening and why. The said in the meantime that everybody should call F & G and let them know how we feel a bout it.

Well no kiddin- being they are public servants and NOT law makers, don't think they can just pull something like that out their rear ends and call it a rule.
Ridicules if that is the case especially just out of the blue.
Personally here in Michigan, I carry a state hunting guide with me- I follow EVER rule in it and in the event I am ever questioned (never have but just in case), if they can point a violation out in THE RULES write that ticket, if not it's hunter harassment and we DO have laws about that. It's in THE RULES!
Good luck my friend, hope this is all just crap.

I hope so too. I'm ging to call the governor's office monday too. Our club secretary said he thinks it was the F & G director that made the decision. I don't think he can just make a decision anytime he wants. If that's the case he needs to go!

Well, that's just not right. As a rule Idaho has had their heads on straight when it comes to the game laws. I hope it's either a mistake or it can get straightened out. Loren will make it happen if it can happen. He's good folks. Definitely sounds like some calls/e-mails need to go out, though! Good luck on this, broper.

Unfortunately, many agencies have the ability to make the definitions as they go along - the BATFE decides what guns we can have because they were given the power (by "our lawmakers") to decide what guns have sporting use - same with the EPA, they decide what is a wetland, even if there is no water there (see last weeks Supreme Court Decision).

We give these people trust and it goes to their head and they are ready to take over the world.

Yeah, Loren, our president talked to F & G in Boise and asked if we could shoot them in an area from Emmett to Parma to Boise and they said no. They told him the only place they could be shot was an area up by McCall. Gary, our sec. called representative Bilboa, he was unaware of it, he said that they can't make changes like that without it going before the legislature first. He promised to look into it on monday and let us know. He recommended that we all call F & G and make our feelings known to them. I'm not going to shoot them until I find out for sure. I've talked to F & G here before about other matters and they are very evasive, you can't get a definate yes or no out of them. Anyway, when I find out more I'll post it.

If they were put on the "endangered species list" that's federal and the state has no say. If ID has there own "endangered protected list" that's a state thing.

Is this a state or federal endangered list?

they can't just make rules on the fly and call it law.

Some federal agencies do have the power to make decisions etc w/o a vote however, before something can be made a rule, the people expected to comply with the rule have to be notified and given time to comply.
Im very interested in this Idaho silliness- sounds to me like someones jerkin someone around and until I had this "rule" somewhere in writing, I would continue to hunt with in the law as it is written.
If the speed limit sign says 55 and you get a ticket for 52 just because a cop says it's now 45 no matter what the sign says? You see my point

Sure, I see your point, but being as "old as dirt" (just ask my son
wink.gif
), I have seen many times, where the decision was, "Wellwe posted it in the newspaper (or the govt website), and it's your responsibility to... bla bla bla...

I'm not saying don't shoot the squeaks, just do what you can to cover your hind quarters in case you meet up with an aggressive F&G dude that is lookin' to make his bones with the agency or the greenies.

... just sayin' ;

Well I'm not going to shoot them until I know something definate. There's to many gung ho game wardens and cops out there and I'm not going to take a chance on loosing my hunting license and possibly my gun. I did talk to Idaho F & G less than an hour ago. They said that they have been in meetings all day and still are, to decide which ground squirrels and where will be listed. They said as soon as somethimg was definate they would let our club, Idaho Varmint Hunters, know. They also said they've been getting calls all day from concerned sportsmen, even from as far as California. So I think we stirred up a hornets nest, which is exactly what needed to be done. If any of you from this forum called, I'd like to say thanks. And if any one else wants to call the number is 208-334-3700, ask for Debbie. We would aprreciate your help and just remember, your state may be next.

I keep saying, this is a new ruling that the F & G has made in the last few days. After the regs were put out. They were meeting today, after all the protests, to decide for sure which squirrels and areas will be off limits. I was in formed a bit ago through our club that they will try to get it resolved before our April 14th whistle pig tournament but it could take as long as a year. I hope not, I want to shoot them now.
