Okie Rios for out of state boys

Daniel and I had been following one another on social media for quite some time when I got word he was in NW Oklahoma. What better way to meet than to show him and his brother an Oklahoma sunrise, complete with turkey gobbles and howling coyotes? They had never hunted Rios before but knew how to get down in the tick-filled weeds and make it happen. On our last set, we had some birds located about a quarter mile away, sped down a dirt road in my truck with Lance jumping out to close the final distance on foot. In his haste, he forgot to grab his call. He still went Indian-style, stalking in there and calling a bird in with his voice. Daniel and I sat back and observed in anticipation, unable to see anything but hearing the chaos ahead of turkeys fighting, a single shotgun blast, and then all went quiet. All that was left to do was to glance with a grin and that familiar feeling that comes at the end of a successful hunt.
