I need a new scope for my Super Blackhawk and was considering one of these two stores. Has anyone had any experience with either Optics Planet or SWFA?

Please share comments both positive and negative.

Thanks

Greg

can't beat optics planet shipping prices-FREE!. I've never had a problem with either SWFA or Optics planet, though I have had stuf put on backorder through Optics planet. SWFA has been about a two day turnaround.

I have never done any business with Optics Planet, and was
very frustrated with trying to get info out of SWFA. Also
SWFA did some funny business with website names, that if
you entered the site name theopticszone.com it would warp
you to their site. theopticzone.com(notice the missing
"s"), is a sponsor here. The Optic Zone has very competitive
prices, and have always been expeditious in shipping orders,
or contacting me if they could not ship, and offered
guidance on when the products were scheduled to be
available. On price comparisons, TOZ(theopticzone.com) was
less expensive than SWFA, on a number of items, and TOZ
often runs free shipping specials on amounts over a certain
total. This is the first site I visit when considering new
optics purchases, and most often where I end up placing the
order.

You have to really watch Optics Planet on prices, some times they cant be beat other times they are high. If you call them to place your order they may match or beat another advertised price, I have had them do it. I have also ordered scopes from Midway, Midsouth when I catch them on sale. Just look around at prices so you dont pay too much.

Natchez Shooters Supply is a good place to check out. They have really good sales occasionally. Their regular prices are pretty good as well.

+1 on the Optic Zone!
The cost of "Good" optics make it pretty easy to fall into the free shipping catagories.
Plus,,,They're just nice people to do buisness with.

I've ordered from SWFA and I've never had a great experience when dealing with them. They always seem to be out-of-stock and I end up waiting for weeks/months. The only way I would do business with them again is to call and verify they have it in stock. Otherwise, I'll take my business to Midway, Optic Zone (they are good people), etc.

I have bought from SWFA and Optics Planet (plus a bunch of others).

I would not buy from SWFA again - I bought a new Nikon 6.5x20-44 (with overnight express shipping), to use on a short notice varmint trip the following week. So I paid the going price plus ~$44 in shipping.

I received a used and badly scratched scope.

I did get a refund for the scope, but I was out the shipping (~$67 for both ways), and had to use another, lower quality scope for the trip.

I would also buy from TOZ the next time - they are a really nice bunch of people, and a lot of guys on this site have been very happy with them.

I have bought from SWFA many many times with not one single problem at all.I will buy from them time and time again. If I found the item I wanted somewhere else I call SWFA and they beat the price if it is a lajeat dealer.

SWFA all the way.

You have to be careful buying from SWFA as a lot of their scopes are used but it is identified as such up front.
I have bought from Optics Planet and eabco.com with total satisfaction.
If you buy from the big retailers, you have to be careful because most have the policy that once you mount it, it is non-returnable to them. I had been a MidwayUSA customer for years when I purchased a scope from them. I mounted it and fired 5 shots thru a 22 mag when the front lens fell out. They would not replace or refund nor would they help me contact the manufacturer. So I am no longer a MidwayUSA customer.

SWFA is a very reputable company, ANYTIME there has been any problem at all they have been right there to give all the help possible, even when it wasn't their problem to begin with. They are a small company (family) owned and operated, and the folks working there that aren't family are still treated as if they were. If you have a problem with them, the problem likely is yours.

Discovery Optics has good prices on Sightrons and have been good to deal with. I've bought from E.A. Brown and no problems there either.

I have purcahsed scopes from SWFA. Each one has been as advertised shipping has been exceptional. I have not had any issues with them so far. Customer Reps very friendly and helpful not over zealous sales people. They have a great guarantee program and match price offer that is hard to beat.No dealings with Optics planet....

SWFA is having a sale on a special run of Leupold VXII 3x9x40 in OD green that is a commemerative M40 model for $299.95 if anyone is interested. Unless i'm mistaken the original M40 was equipped with Redfield accu-ranges, but it still sounds like an interesting piece.

I have bought from SWFA twice now and both times have had no issues. I have a dealer that works for us that lives literally 5 minutes from their shop so he can pick up the items I buy and bring them to work with him so its real convenient for me.

I have had good experiences dealing with the people over the phone and they seemed knowledgeable to me. I would deal with them again for sure.
