Opinions of Mossberg 835

Looked at a Mossberg 835 in camo, appeared to be in good shape. What is a good price and what should I look for as far as problems with the gun. One choke in the gun.

Well I bought a 535 new, and it is awesome. The only difference is that the 835 is almost a 10ga barrel, while mine is a standard barrel. I love my mossberg, so if its a good deal get it.

I bought a 835 years ago when they first came out. I can't say anything bad about them other than they kill on one end and cripple on the other.

I loved mine. I regret selling it. I used the Mossberg choke that came with it. It patterned better then anything else. (turkey loads) Only down side to it was it is a little on the heavy side.

I bought one for $175 in a pawn shop because I wanted a shot gun that would handle the 3.5" shells. I tried 3.5" shells on some geese and the shells would not eject. I THINK that there might have been carbon build up from shooting 3" rounds, and the longer shells would bind in that build up, but I am not sure. I had geese flying all around me and I had to take the gun apart and get the empty out. Luckily, there were still birds flying so I tried it again, same result! If the snow wasnt so deep, I would have wrapped that shot gun around the power pole that was 80 yards away. I have also witnesses more than one new Mossberg that will drop several shells on the ground while ejecting the spend round and loading the next in line... no more mossbergs for me.

Last to mention, that 835 drew a lot of viewers when I tried to sell it, but was harder to get rid of than herpes.

I have an 835 ulti-mag and it is a fine gun.I have the dead coyote choke tube/dead coyote shells...deer killer down.I like mine so much I may get a rifled brl.for deer down state in the shotgun zone....

I had one several years ago, sold it to a good friend. I would love to have it back, but he refuses to part with it! Good shooting and reliable gun.

I've had two mossberg shotguns over the years and both are garbage, the second being the 835.

The thing will not eject.

I've been thinking I might make it a tactical home defence gun with a new shorter barrel and pressure light

on a side note, I've never shot a real honest to goodnes skeet gun until last summer..wow what a difference. It was a side by side double custom built from turkey

I was a killer shot with it on skeet, but with a gun like that its hard not to be

the 835 pump and 935 auto have what really is a 10 ga barrel, which might make them a little heavy, but they shoot great.
they love #4s and shoot well anything you put through them, even do well and shooting matches, i've had a few and the all were good shooting, i'd say they would be worth about $275 to $375 depending what your getting.if you got a bad one i'd be very shocked. in my opnion they are one of the best turkey guns out there. one i had would put 16 shot of #4s in a turkey neck target at 55 yds, with the stock tube, and that was 20 years ago with some of the tubes they have now i wouldn't be suprized if you couldn't double that # or extend the range to 65 yds. heck if you don't for some reason like it they're good sellers. i know of no problems with the 835 mossberg.

I got the combo pkg in MO camo rifled barrel/turkey tube.So far it shoots great with both barrels and no problems.Got most all Mberg's chokes for it off GB at very good prices.I replaced the stock pad with a Kickeez(which I highly recommend)and mounted Bushnells Trophy RD on the slug barrel.IMO you cant go wrong but some have had feed problems.

I've abused the heck out of my 835 and only had one hiccup in all the years I've owned it. I went about 6 years without oiling or cleaning it and had a piece of treebark lodge in the magazine tube between shells and hang one round up on me. Of course it was while I was trying for a follow up on a doe being run by hounds

. I hunt everything with mine and shoot ammo from 2.75" to 3.5" for everything from doves to deer. When the conditions get ugly, the 835 goes in the woods with me.

I got an 835 shortly after they came out, and it will have a home in my gun safe until I die. A little heavy, but dependable and patterns super with turkey loads. I've shot it side by side with different SBE's and have out patterned all of them with turkey chokes and loads. No way I'd trade it for a SBE straight up.
A faster second shot would be nice on geese, but what the heck.

Great, reliable shooters. They are backbored which is supposed to improve patterns. Killed a couple deer, a lot of pheasants and a few turkeys with mine. No function problems.

I too bought mine with the full set of choke tubes, for next to nothing at a pawn shop. I've bought two turkey chokes for it, and couldn't tell you which is better that the other. I also bought the rifled barrel for it and can say that it shoots well, too. I've only shot doves and coyotes with the shotgun, but tit works VERY well with whatever I happen to stuff in it. VERY reliable and I won't be getting rid of it, even though there are Benelli's in the safe, too.

I was at a gunshow a couple weeks ago and bought the ultimag 835 for $235 in camo and it was in nice shape but prices might be higher depending where you live.
