Optics cleaning

Basically all the optics I own could use a good cleaning. Dust and waterspots abound in my safe. I'm curious what most people do, I've used air in a can, lens cloths, lens pens, and lens wipes at one time or another and seems like I've gotten mixed results. I read through several older threads and it seems like it's been awhile since the topic has been covered. I realize this should be simple task but I haven't been happy with past results.

I use a product that I got from my optician. It is called Purity Lens Cleaner. Best stuff I have ever used. Originally got it for glasses, but decided to try on some dirty scope lens. Personally I will never use anything else.

I tried to read a few articles on that site but they were so poorly written I couldn't do it. I may not use perfect grammar but that site takes it to a whole new level of bad. It actually reads like a poorly translated instruction manual from a Chinese product.

They also implied the only way to clean a riflescope is to remove it completely from the rifle and they also stated most people can't run a screwdriver properly.

In another article they listed the top 5 scopes for an ar as 3 bottom end Nikons, a low end Bushnell, and to top it off they list a freaking UTG as the number 1 scope for an AR.

I'm not trying to be a smart a** but I would be very careful about taking anything on that website to seriously.

While I agree to use air to blow the dust off before trying to clean the optics or lens I'd be careful as to what lens solution you use to clean any glass on your optics.

Please be very careful using Acetone as it might dissolve glue holding the lens in place if you use too much and get it in the wrong places. Acetone is very powerful. I recommend sticking to lens cleaning solutions made for your optics.

Many optics have a special coating on the lens surfaces that help prevent light from scattering. Acetone might ruin the lens coating materials. Or it might not. But I'd be wanting to call the Lens maker and talk to them about what to use to clean their lens.
