Oregon coyotes

Any body ever hunt Oregon for coyotes? I’m extremely new to this and am kind of lost on where to begin. I’ve got myself a foxpro and a good rifle to go along with it. Considering heading over to the desert this coming weekend and trying my luck any advice you’d fellas be willing to share for a first timer?

First bit of advice would be to read up on here. There are tons of great posts to help guide you in the right direction. The predator 101 pages are a great place to start.

Second and perhaps one of the most important things you must learn is patience. Don’t expect to go out and have things be as easy as it looks in the YouTube videos.

Not much to add to what yoteslayer added besides focus on your position and setup more than the sounds. Everyone gets caught up in what sounds are or aren't working when most of the time is probably something in the approach or setup that's causing issues.

Finding coyotes in OR shouldn't be a big problem, finding them where you can hunt is the trick. I met the sales clerk in the sporting goods store in Tillamook and she killed her first coyote elk hunting not far from town. I hunted them near the ocean on the north side of the Columbia River. Check U-tube for "Coyote hunting in Oregon" there was a fellow and his son that did a whole series of coyote hunting shows in OR.

I've driven from Burns to Winamucca quite a few times and saw coyotes also from Pendleton to the ID border and along I-5 south of Salem.

You can get public lands maps from your local BLM office.Onx mapping has public lands overlays. .Check with National Wildlife refuges whether coyote hunting is legal on the one you might want to hunt, some it is legal some not. Mahuer WLR had a big problem with coyotes decimating antelope fawns when they were reintroducing antelope there., I don't know if they allow coyote hunting or not.,

Have fun hunting. Finding coyotes shouldn't be a problem, getting them close enough to shoot is the trick
