Oregon vs. Wyoming/Montana areas

Howdy Folks,
I moved to Oregon from Louisiana 3 years ago which was a mistake. I wish I could move back to Louisiana but my wife who is from Oregon doesn't want to. We recently went to Montana/Wyoming/Idaho for vacation and we liked it a lot. We both agree we want out of Oregon because of the liberalism. So any of you guys out in the Montana/Wyoming/Idaho areas, what is it like to live out there? What are your gun/huntin/fishin laws? We have one daughter which we plan to homeschool. Also I work as a heating and air conditioning service tech. Snow and ice doesn't bother us as we already deal with that here in the hills above Silverton, Oregon. I am currently taking the trappers education course here in Oregon. So what do ya'll think about where you live? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif
 
You should look into Minnesota.. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif....Lots of hunting and fishing.. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif..also jobs in your field......just a throught.....stump

If you want to get away from liberalism all together, I would suggest Wyoming. You could easily find work if you moved to one of the mining/oil/methane boom towns.
 
I agree with supermag, second choice would be Montana. Taxes are high here. In either state, you would be able to find or make your own income. Congrats on the homeschooling. We did that for 18 years.

No restrictive gun laws here, hunting and fishing is great. The west side of the Rockies has a milder climate than the east side, but the east side has the best hunting and fishing and ALOT less people /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif.

Yup--your a bit close up to the blue in the north end of the Valley. Almost everywhere else in Oregon is more conservative than from Eugene to Portland.
 
Same here, Bigdog2. Washington is liberal because the Puget Sound region is populated with liberal citydwellers who outnumber the population in the other 95% of acreage in the state! Disgusting every election season, and when you have to deal with the govt. However, the small towns and countryside are full of mostly good people. So living in the sticks is nice in most respects.
 
Eugene to Portland is quite liberal, but the rest of the state is mostly comprised of working class folks. Sorry about your bad experience, and good luck to ya'.

Thanks for the replies. My wife and I do like Wyoming alot especially around the Sheridan/Bighorn Mtns. Minnesota sounds nice although I have only been through there briefly. Mr. Todd, I know the folks outside of the I-5 corridor are folks just like myself, it's just that Portland and the bigger cities seem to have a control over the whole state. Even down the hill in Silverton, a man that dresses like a woman is running for mayor and last election he won a town council seat. I wouldn't mind moving to the John Day area but again taxes are high. Thanks for the reply!
