Otis Gun Cleaning Kits?? Anyone use them??

I've seen these around and they look pretty sweet. Anyone ever use one? What did you think?
They claim to be easy on the bore because instead of a rod you have a flexible, plastic coated steel cable (that you pull through the bore instead of pushing) and all brass components that won't scratch the bore.

I'm a relative rookie and am wondering if it is true that brass components won't scratch the bore of a rifle. From what I understand this is generally accepted as truth. Sure would hate to damage my bore because I was afraid to ask a stupid question.

The Otis seems like a good solution to easy in-the-field cleaning and such.

Any thoughts??????

I've been using on my M16. One thing you need to be very careful of is having too much patch on the jag. What happens is you start to pull it and it gets stuck in the bore. If you pull on it too hard when it is stuck or too tight of a fit, the brass T handle bends and you'll need a pair of leathermans and an assistant to get the thing out.

Last time we had one jammed in real good and after wrapping the muzzle end of the cable around the cargo strap hook of a 5-ton truck and yanking *hard* on the rifle it came out.

Mines gone unused now for a while as I prefer to use a boresnake. No worries about it getting stuck and you don't have to assemble anything. For using as a bore brush it is fine, but the boresnake has a built in brush.

For use in the field I'd prefer to carry a cheap aluminum rod kit if you need something to clear bore obstuctions from something like muzzle in the mud where you don't have any sticks/twigs handy (followed with a pass from boresnake) and the rods can also pull double duty as part of your medical kit as a tourniquet handle.

utahheadgear: I really like mine and use it extensively, kinda sorta for the same reason Bronco did not like his. If you watch close you can get patches to fit loose to VERY TIGHT. I tight pacth alot, have a large dia, 2.5" dowell that I wrap the cable around and secure and pull that through to get stuff CLEAN. No rods in your bore, you can use any tool that fits a cleaning rod and not have to have all different sizes. I like it!

I carry one in my hunting pack for clearing the bbl if I stumble and stick it into the dirt or if it gets clogged with snow.

Wouldn't go afield without having something to do the job!
