What kind of owl decoys do you use for crow calling? This is my set up, with some 8 Lohman crow decoys, I just paint the necks white to resemble our Pied crow, our main pest. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-006.gif
I have looked over the sites and cannot find very many choices of owl, this one stands some 48cm high ( 20 inches)and is about 10 inches wide when viewed from the air, its nice and "fat" and easy to spot. His big eyes are also realistic, lucky for me the stand he stands on is hollow and fits just perfect over the wire fence upright at my calling stand, a perfect fit.
I face it down wind as this is the direction most crows will approach from, they enjoy wind under their wings for lift, so facing that way gets me best results. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
It is the wrong time of year now to call them, just before breeding time is best ( October) now our wheat is tall also so they fall into the long wheat and we cant get them, its also soaking wet in their! Today I shot 12 in an hour, it was very quiet, but I also began very late due to business commitments.. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif
The lohman crows are pop up plastic, and inflate fast on their own, they cost just $3 each, the owl is about $10. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif
Anyway, this owl seems to work ok, just the educated ones veeeeeeeeeeeer away fast!
