Pager Pal Concealed Holster

I was at a Gang Conference last week and noticed this guy with a table set up in the vendor area. The concept and presentation was intriguing, and they worked pretty good as I "tried one on." It left a few things to be desired in my opinion, but I think they could be worked out with a couple of minor wardrobe adjustments on my part. The perceived upside seemed to outway the potential downside by a long shot, in my mind. But I'm curious, has anyone here ever had any experience with these holsters? If so, what was it and what's you take on this product? Thanks. Here's the web site for those interested or who may be unfamiliar with this holster:

I have one for the large auto and carried the Sig 239 in it for a while. It is like anyother inside the waist band holsters, you must have loose fitting pants for it to be confortable. The one i have has the spare clip holder. Overall it is not a bad holster with certain types of clothing. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Those pager gun holsters have been out for over 10 years. I haven't found any in the pants holsters to be comfortable long term; the exception being really (very) small handguns. It would also have to have a cell phone on it to be believable. That pager worn in front (in picture)like it is would making driving a vehicle almost impossible.

I know the fanny packs are pretty obvious that you are packing, but they are very comfortable for long term in either large or small handguns. Also they allow you to take spray, extra ammo and cuffs....things I don't leave home without.

I'm relatively new to the world of LE/Corrections and to carrying a concealed firearm. It was also my first time at this particular conference. From the way groups of people were surrounding this guy, you would have thought he invented a time machine or something. Maybe they were all newbies too, or just not up to date on all the latest innovations in the CCW world. Sorry if my inexperience comes shining through on this one. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif That may explain the small number of replies I've received.

Pager Pals may have out for 10 years or more, but my experience with this sort of thing only goes back a little more than 5. In that time, I have experimented and used a number of different conceal carry methods. My current favorite is my XD duty model with a Don Hume IWB holster. This has not been too uncomfortable for me at all. I like the idea of the grip of the gun being beneath you belt line, for concealment under all sorts of clothing. However, I wonder how fast I could reliably retrieve the thing. The guy at the both could do it in nothing flat. But I imagine he's practiced a fair amount, as it's his livelyhood and all.

The clothing would definately have to be right for this to work. I guess my acid-washed, Levi's 501's from the late eighties would be a no-go... Not that they would still fit anyway, or that I still have them. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif When I tried on the holster and crouched down in a "catcher posistion," there was a slight bulge from the front end of the slide in the bottom of the holster. However, it was undescernable as to what it may be. It did not print or have that obvious "gun under the pants" bulge.

You can remove the pseudo pager and put your own working cell phone or pager in there. That was probably one of the biggest selling points to me. I guess they also have attachments to put in a badge, cuffs, OC, or pretty much any other thing you might have to carry anyway. Obviously, you'd only use these things if you didn't mind obviously looking like some kind of officer, but wanted to conceal a gun. Anyway, thanks for you input thus far.

Dillon does, or did, sell them out of their catalog. Dillon would probably refund your money if it didn't work out for you.

One thing you will learn about concealing a firearm, good holsters don't come cheap.

Boy! Isn't that the truth! It didn't take me too long to learn that there is no easy or cheap way to do it right. Kind of like that with a lot of things firearm related, and life in general really. Before I wax too philosophical, I've got to say I have occassionally gotten lucky here and there, but it been exactly that - luck. As I mentioned before I've really like my Don Hume holster which I don't think I paid any more than $30 for, including shipping. I think the price was for overstocked inventory or some such thing. However, it's not what i would consider the end all, be all CCW holster. But it works well in certain applications. Anyway, I've bought "cheap" holsters and tried to make them work and they never have all that well.

I've been a lurker for a while but needed to post up on this one. I bought one at a local gun show and wore it once. Driving it was VERY uncomfortable and it never felt "right" with any type of clothing. I would never recommend it to anyone!!! I am lanky in build(5'10" and 170), so that might be a problem but it just didn't feel right.

You may have set a new record for the longest time between registering and first post?

I've seen those about 9 years ago at a Soldier of Fortune show in Las Vegas, a few years later I heard from some very respected handgun instructors to stray away from them, I cant remember why, but at the time they sounded conviencing. I have and have'nt had a problem with them.

Welcome to the board David. Thats one heck of a skull you got there that cant be the biggest elk in the world is it?
