Looking for some ideas on what to use for painting a OEM synthetic stock.

Let me know....?

Good luck getting paint to stick and stay on them. Polane T does a good job staying on fiberglass and epoxy based stocks.

i'm doing a camo job on my mossberg 500 12ga.while looking at hobby lobby for stencils i saw paint special made to stick to plastics.i can't remember the name though

I did one on my .204 that turned out just awesome! I work in a body shop and our paint process has come along ways. I don't know if you have access to any of the products we use but hit up your local body shop and see if they can hook you up on just laying the foundation. Once that is done you can add your colors/patterns over what they have done. By far the best way to paint a stock is clean,clean,clean....
Here is the way mine turned out. No peeling, flaking or shine. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

Doug,
I have painted a bunch of synthetic stocks. I scuff them up and use gray Krylon primer then 2-3 coats of what ever color I desire in the Krylon Camo (couple guys I know use the new Fusion paint) and then web it with Krylon webbing paint. Looks good and reasonably durable. If you throw your gun around or slide it over rocks it's going to scratch it but it sticks fine and is easily touched up. If your a PH or a guide then there are much more durable methods but for a normal guy this works great. I was going to attach a pic but see I can't do that here.

Go to Lauers websight or do a search for Duracoat the people at Lauer sell a cammo kit in a couple doz patterns the kit is about 90 bucks I think but it will do several rifles the kits have all the paint stencils and an instruction DVD it is permanant and requireds no Bakeing or preheating.
They also have a rattle can formula but I am not sure of the price

I have sanded and cleaned and primed with Fusion paint and then primed and painted over that. Give the fusion ample time to cure.

I'd second this method. I used Krylon Grey Primer, then Krylon camo colors, and finally some "Sand Stone" textured decorative finish which because it has almost a sand texture is really flat,no shine whatsoever.

There are areas where it rubs off because of use but I just touch it up its good to go.

One of these days I'll get around to taking a photo of the AR and posting it.
